Today I forgot to bring my laptop up the hill. Therefore I was forced to do #amateurradio the old style, talk to hams via #ssb instead of doing #ft8. It was a welcome change that made me join the #RSGB contest on #40m plus a #POTA activation on #20m.

Just before Christmas another #POTA activation of DE-0192. WX was 2° C and a cold wind. 56 QSO in #40m and #15m, data and SSB.
I just had decided to stop and was preparing #QRT when several VK stations called me and then Uruguay and then Benin...
It was worth going the extra mile!

Today's #POTA early shift activation took place with hoarfrost.
Every minute at sunrise reduced the likelihood of #DX on #40m. At least I could work Trinidad and Tobago.

Just returned from a rainy #POTA activation of Parker's Creek Wildlife Management Area US-7761. #40m was dead but #20m wasn't awful. Worked several P2P contacts including @va3ekr. All #cw, which was a nice change of pace for me. #hamr

What @N4JAW said. Magnetic storm? Well, something was different this morning, when I started my #POTA activation. And it was not only the weather (4°C, "chilling me softly"). It went surprisingly well, when I realized that there was a major magnetic storm. Anyway, 38 QSO mainly on #40m, even some SSB! Thanks, hunters!

This afternoon I activated DM/SR-012 (Schaumberg) for #SOTA which is also part of #POTA DE-0022. Sunny but windy WX. I could not use the usual spot because it was not accessible, so I built up at the top where I had some QRM by a wedding party... 🥳
Finally had 26 QSO in a bit more than an hour on #20m and #40m SSB.

#SOTA OE/TI-527 Unterberghorn is easily accessible by funicular. It’s about an hour’s walk from the top station to the summit (300 vertical meters). We took the walk down, but I can’t recommend that since it is mostly in the woods and the views are not that spectacular. After arriving at the hotel I thought it was time for a small activation: #SOTA DL/CG-110 Walmberg is the closest summit to our location. I’m currently testing a new #EFHW for #40m, #20m, #15m and #10m. On some #SOTA summits there is not enough space to put up a full 20 m long antenna. This Icom 746 can tune almost anything, I got it to tune my #EFHW8010 for #160m / #FT8 (which is surprising, consider I sometimes have trouble tuning #40m and #80m with it, heh, probably because I had to splice it back together at some point and probably lost a little bit in length)

I've heard the phrase, "my tuner could tune a coat hanger"

I might need to try that 😂 with this, lol
