OK #RetroComputing fans, I was gifted an #Atari 2600+ & have finally gotten around to unboxing & connecting…

Pros:

looks cool
… 🤔

Cons:

only includes 1 joystick 🤪
1.5m joystick cable means sitting close to the big-arse TV with old knees & crook’d neck
crappy selection of games in included cartridge (IMO)
cartridge label faces away from you (WTF? is this how the original cartridges were designed? it’s been so long I forget…)
additional cartridges are bananapants expensive & they don’t seem to do many multi-game cartridges? way to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, Atari! 🤦‍♀️

so… I’m looking for #recs for not-ridiculously-expensive options for

adding a second joystickadding 1-2 wireless joysticks
connecting 1-2 modern controller(s) either wired or wirelessly (powered DB9 - USB adapter? 🤔)
sourcing 2 x 3m+ DB9 extension leads
best additional games to get?

I’m sure I could figure out how to get hold of a cartridge with 3,275 games on it were I so inclined (I’m not, Your Honour) so no need for recs in that area, thx 🙃

Atari's "Star Wars" (1983) is often cited as one of the greatest games of all time but, IMHO, that requires some strong rose-tinted glasses...

I can see how it might have been a great *experience* — with a proper yoke, inside its cockpit-style cabinet, and back when Star Wars still felt fresh — but I don't think it's that great as a *game*. It feels more of an on-rails demo of 1983's vector 3D graphics and digitized sound.

Or maybe I just don't get it. 🤷‍♂️

I've successfully built the recent version of #VolksForth for the #Commodore64 and have created a #d64 #disk #image which also contains all relevant sources as text files (in SEQ format) so they can be loaded and compiled using the new INCLUDE word because VolksForth 3.9.x supports text files and clasic blk storage.

I've also included #vi65 which is a clone of the #vi editor for the C64 (and other #Commodore and #Atari #8bit machines). It comes in versions with 40, 53, 64 and 80 column support. I have provided all of them but recommend the 64 column version for various reasons.

(I'll upload the final image to csdb.dk once I'm happy with it)
