Irgendwie so ganz smooth finde ich die Verbindung zwischen unterschiedlichen #ActivitiyPub Instanzen noch nicht. Will man mit einem #Mastodon Account ein #Peertube Video kommentieren, muss sein Account handle eingeben. Das ist aber irgendwie anders formatiert (accountname@domain) als das Profil-Link hier (social.domain@accountname)😞 Automatisch erkennen wäre natürlich absolut premium.

On preparation to delete my x/twitter account, I was planning to put my whole twit history in a #mastodon archive account, but that would be unfair for the instance hosting it.

So, I will try to convert the #twitter dumped data into #activitiypub created notes just for fun, and hosting it in my site. Kind of a read-only timeline.

Would somebody be interested in watching this live? I can setup a stream to code for fun this part.

So, fellow butterfles, remember when I mentioned Friendica yesterday? Instances running the latest version let you post to ActivityPub, the in-house DFRN protocol, and ATProto. You'll have to give it access to a preëxisting BSky account but there you go.

Would I do when?

What I'm doing right now about moderation, is raising awareness. We need a protocol evolution to improve moderation. The question is: What will the result be? Will it still be ActivityPub or will we transition to ATProto and its philosophy?

Die Diskussion bzgl. #threads blocken bzw. sogar #Instanzen blocken die threads nicht Blocken ist einfach nur noch witzlos.
Jeder kann doch für sich selbst entscheiden im Interface, ob er Sachen sehen will oder nicht, warum sollen #Admins dies machen?
Keine Verbote wollen, aber Verbotskultur bzgl. threads anregen.
#Mastodon bzw. #ActivitiyPub nervt da gerade ein wenig.

@Hiker @mueller Och bin erst seit vorigem Jahr hier. Aber ich wüsste nicht wozu ich ein weiteres Netzwerk brauche. Implementiert #Threads #ActivitiyPub dann brauche ich sowieso keinen weiteren Account. Wird es nicht implementiert, dann will ich lieber in einem föderierten Netzwerk bleiben.

What has been done so far

As we have announced from the very beginning, it is important to us to make our work as sustainable as possible. In this context, sustainability means being modular and trying to enable necessary extension functionality in the upstream project, the WordPress ActivityPub plugin. Regarding the functionality that our project should ideally offer, we have created two posts in the discussion section of the repository on Github to provide a place where these feature additions can be discussed by the community while we work on a draft for a pull request.

• Flexible management of how posts gets transformed to ActivityPub objects
• Management of ActivityPub actors

During the planning stage of our proposals, we had fantastic meetings with other ActivityPub developers, whom we would like to sincerely thank.

• The lead developer of the ActivityPub plugin @pfefferle provided a fascinating insight into previous and ongoing challenges, as well as future strategies, eagerly embracing our concepts with receptiveness.
• The lead developer of Mobilizon @tcit informed us about the most important hurdles in the development of Mobilizon and helped us to assess what challenges in interoperability we were likely to face.
• With @grindhold, the developer of flohmarkt, a federated marketplace with ActivityPub support, we discussed common issues such as working with non-note object types, implementing instance/application actors, and took a look at some Fediverse Enhancement Proposals (#FEP) that are of interest to both our projects.

A later task in our project plan is testing with real users to identify typical pitfalls in setup, use and documentation. Although this user study will not take place in the near future, we have recognised the need to start thinking about it now and have already had discussions about planning this task.

Current tasks

Currently we are designing and prototyping the architecture of the hook system, how plugins can register their own ActivityPub transformers to the main plugin.

Upcoming tasks

Next, we will write a small WordPress plugin containing hardcoded transformer classes for the three most installed WordPress event plugins, as well as extending and improving the admin interface for managing transformers.

I was thinking that if we as fediverse should start re-thinking the concept of "embedding media" to a next level to extend privacy by design. And default.

Current situation is, when you share a e.g. youtube url most projects embedding in a classical way by default. Without you doing something, just scrolling over that post, there is data loaded from external sites by default. Ok on some apps and sites there is a banner where you have click on "Do you agree to load external data .. privacy ... blah". But if the author of the post or article doesn't tell you exactly what it is, you don't have a chance to know what you are clicking on. And let's be honest: There are a lot people out there just throwing in links without ANY information trusting the site to catch all the information and don't care about the privacy of other people.

How about we start to think that by default there is only e.g. a classic thumbnail with an included url, that was caught when the person posted it? This wouldn't load any other data. A static post.

So you could see already more information like a preview, what is in a lot situations another important decision if you click on it or not.

So you could click on it an the media opens in your preferred App oder Programm.

Additionally there could be another Button, who lets you load the embedded version, so you don't have to leave your app or Website.

Ho do you think about improving the privacy with embedded media?
