Although our general tendency to be curious may decrease with age, our situational or "state" might actually increase across the lifespan, which might help boost well-being and cognitive outcomes in older age

CIAO: Cilento Initiative on Aging Outcomes
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/323807

In a 2016 presentation, researchers reported that the oldest residents participating in the CIAO study exhibited robust microcirculation of blood comparable in efficiency to people 30 years younger. They also noted that low blood levels of the peptide hormone adrenomedullin were an indicator for good microcirculation.

In 2018, using a mix of scales to measure mental and physical well-being, resilience, optimism, anxiety, depression and perceived stress, researchers assessed 29 nonagenarians and 51 family members between the ages of 51 and 75. They found the study participants aged 90 and older had worse physical health but better mental well-being than their younger counterparts. Exceptional longevity was characterized by a balance between acceptance of and grit to overcome adversities, along with a positive attitude and close ties to family, religion and the land, providing purpose in life.

Researchers investigating the relationship between loneliness and wisdom compared different age cohorts in San Diego and Cilento, using two validated loneliness scales. They found no significant differences in levels of loneliness among the groups, but a strong inverse correlation between loneliness and wisdom in all groups. Loneliness worsened general health, sleep quality and feelings of happiness, while wisdom improved these measures.

CHAOS this morning as we received a call from our kid's school saying that the lunch program we occasionally pay for won't be delivered today.

I got the message after I already dropped her off at school as was already at the office.

Thankfully my mom is retired and lives nearby. She'll shuttle a lunch to her school.

Always unnerving getting a call from the school, especially since I'm now 40-50mins away at the office and not 5mins away working from home 🙃

Unexpected day off work today and day 'on' caring after I spent most of the evening with Dad in the hospital with a health scare. He was good to go home around midnight but they asked if I could sleep over so I drove us back to Dad's via mine, where I picked up sleeping bags and pillow for an exciting night of indoor camping at Dad's (you think I jest about the camping, but it involved sleeping on a very hard bed in a surprisingly cold room so it's more like camping than you'd think).

This morning I took him shopping and to vote and finally got home around lunchtime. Happily, I've since napped in the afternoon sun on a comfortable couch surrounded by dogs, so very much feeling the all's well that ends well vibe tonight

It's a pillow and two sleeping bags laid on top of a bed. You can just see the wooden window sill at the top of the photo and a white chest of drawers to the left (from my childhood home; they must be 50 years old by now, at least). Fun fact: it took me five minutes to work out how to zip up the bottom sleeping bag because who knew, when it's 1am and you've had a banana for dinner and nothing else, the brain doesn't work as well as it could

I dont believe in curses. But if they are real then I’m certain I am cursed.

Ever since I was little, nothing has come easy to me. Everything has been a struggle. A fight. A battle. Whether it is with my mental health or my physical health or even socially. Everything in life has been a long arduous struggle to do simple tasks that others seemingly float through.
