🦠 🍄‍ It's not just people who have a #microbiome. Plants do too. Interesting talks in today's session on microbiome management across scales for sustainable #agroecosystems about a wide range of plant groups: 🍎 apple trees, 🍅 tomatoes, 🌳 oaks, 🌸 wildflowers and 🥦 cannabis. #landscape2024

#Landscape2024 was officially opened this morning by the #conference chairs Prof. Frank Ewert, Prof. Bridget Emmett, Prof. Peter Feindt. They highlighted the need to work together across all scientific disciplines and society on a #transformation of #agroecosystems. 🚜👩‍🔬🌿

What role does #NFDI play for different discplines? Our series continues with Prof Dr Frank Ewert (Leibniz-Zentrum für Agrarlandschaftsforschung (ZALF)) from @FAIRagro .

#FAIRagro focuses on the #agrosystem domain needed to develop sustainable crop production and #agroecosystems. 🥕

Figure 5 from Pérez et al. (2023): "Overview of the main findings of the present study. (...) The increase or decrease in MOB/methanogen cell numbers in the figure does not follow the actual trend observed. The phototrophic community representation is not at scale, shape, or color, which might not represent the real features of the organisms. Further details are in the main text."

I am over the moon to learned my #ERC-CoG project, DROOGHT, is financed !

Many thanks 🙏 to the European Research Council for enabling me to spend the next 5-years looking at #wheat 🌾 #roots, their #hydraulics and their contribution to more resilient #agroecosystems 🚜 !

Want to know more about the project? We will share all our finding, codes , data with the community (#openscience rules!) as soon as possible! Stay tuned at drooght.science (nothing there yet, but it will come soon ;))

Her doctoral work investigated plant-pollinator networks in #agroecosystems. Her current work is synthesizing data on the status, trends, ecosystem services, and drivers that are influencing #biodiversity in Germany’s agricultural and open landscapes🌱🚜🌾

As a member of the EU Commission's focus group on #FarmlandBiodiversity, this week I had the opportunity to participate in an inspiring 2-day meeting in France with 19 fellow experts.
We exchanged experience, visited local farms and discussed various aspects of high-diversity landscape features in support of sustainable #agriculture, #pollinators and healthy #agroecosystems.

New review paper by Martin Hartmann & Johan Six: Soil structure and microbiome functions in #agroecosystems

System-level #agricultural management practices can induce structural alterations to the #soil, thereby changing the microbial processes. These changes have large-scale consequences, such as soil erosion, reduced soil fertility and increased #greenhouse gas emissions.
Sustainable approaches seek to improve soil structure and enhance microbial #biodiversity.

Another new arrival, learning my way around. I’m a conservation biologist at #UConn. Mostly studying #birds and coastal resilience, especially #saltmarsh responses to #sealevelrise, but also #InsectDecline, #agroecosystems, and whatever else happens to distract me …
