The second report better have the #characters #named. I put that in the first prompt and it told everything else except for that. A report that I had earlier named #Trump as the #Antichrist. But it included #Macron in a possible #Antichrist #matrix and I thought that was wrong.

Melanie Calvat

Francoise Melanie Calvat (November 7, 1831-December 14, 1904, 73 upon passing) was a French religious sister/nun in the Roman Catholic Church. A religious sister is a Christian woman who has taken public vows in a religious order dedicated to apostolic works. Even though they’re called nuns, they’re canonically distinct. She & Maximin Guiraud, was/were the 2 seers of Our Lady of La Salette.

Melanie was born in Corps in Isere, France. She was the 4th of 10 kids in a family of extreme poverty. The family was so poor “that the young were sometimes dispatched to beg on the street.”

By the age of 9, Melanie Calvat was hired out as a shepherdess. This is where she met Maximin Guiraud on the eve of their apparition. Her contemporary employers described her as “sulky,” “lazy,” & “uncommunicative.” She spoke the regional Occitan dialect (Patois) & fragmented French. She didn’t have any formal schooling, religious or secular. So naturally, she couldn’t read or write well or at all.

On September 19, 1846, Melanie (a teen at the time) & Maximin (aged 11) saw a vision of the Virgin Mary while tending cows, in the mountains of La Salette. The kids reported seeing a “Beautiful Lady” sitting on a rock, weeping with her head in her hands. She wore a high headdress of roses & a golden crucifix.

The Lady (the Virgin Mary) spoke of the sins of the people. Specifically, the profanation of Sundays & the use of the Lord’s name in vain. She warned of a coming famine (the “potato blight”) if the people didn’t convert. Crucially, the Lady reported sharing individual secrets with each kid, which they were forbidden to reveal until a later date.

The bishop of Grenoble, Philibert de Bruillard, named several commissions to examine the facts. The Marian apparitions were formally approved by the Bishop of Grenoble in 1851. While the event was accepted, Melanie’s personal trajectory became increasingly difficult. Maximin, who entered the seminary, also had difficulties living a normal life.

After the Marian apparition in 1846, Calvat was placed as a boarder in the Sisters of Providence Convent in Corenc, close to Grenoble. She entered religious life at the age of 20. In 1850, she became a postulant with this order & in October 1851, she took the veil.

In May 1853, Bishop de Bruillard died. In early 1854, his replacement refused to grant permission for her to be professed. Because he found that she wasn’t spiritually mature enough. Calvat claimed that the real reason for the refusal was that the bishop was aiming to gain the favor of Emperor Napoleon III of France.

Following the bishop’s refusal to permit her to be professed, Calvat was officially allowed to move to a convent of the Sisters of Charity. However, after 3 weeks, she was returned to Corps en Isere for further education.

She was then allowed to move to Carmel at Darlington in England. She arrived in 1855. She took temporary vows in 1856. In 1858, she wrote to the Pope to tell him a part of the secret she was “authorized” to reveal in that year. In 1860, she was released from her vow of cloister at Carmel by the Pope & returned to mainland Europe.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Compassion in Marseille. Marie, a sister, was appointed as her companion. After a stay in their convent at Cephalonia, Greece, where she & Sister Marie went to open an orphanage. Then, after a short journey at the Carmelite convent of Marseille, she came back to the Sisters of Compassion for a brief time.

In October 1864, she was admitted as a novice, on the condition that she kept her identity secret. But she was recognized. In early 1867, she was officially released from the order. She & her companion then went (following a short stay at Corps & La Salette) to live at Castellamare near Naples in Italy. She was welcomed by the local bishop. She lived there for 17 years & wrote down her secret, including the rule for a future religious foundation.

In 1873, Calvat wrote her personal message again, with the official permission of Sisto Riario Sforza, the Cardinal Archbishop of Naples. Meanwhile, religious orders were being formed at La Salette of Grenoble. These were to provide from pilgrims & spread the message of the vision.

Calvet claimed she had been authorized by the apparition to provide the names of these orders, their rules, & their habits. The 1 for the men was to be named: Order of the Apostles of the Last Days. The 1 for the women was to be named: Order of the Mother of God.

The bishop refused her demands. So she appealed to the Pope. The Pope granted her an audience. She was received by Pope Leo XIII on December 3, 1878. The message was officially published by Calvat herself on November 15, 1879. She got an official ok from Mgr. Salvatore Luigi Zola, Bishop of Lecce near Naples (who had protected & assisted Calvat in his diocese), under the title: Apparition of the Blessed Virgin on the Mountain of La Salette.

Later, the Vatican put this book on the Index of Prohibited Books. The “Secret of La Salette” is actually a series of documents written by Calvat at different stages of her life. The 1851 secret was sent to Pope Pius IX. It warned of “France’s corruption” & a coming “general war.” The 1879 secret was published in Lecce, Italy. It contained the famous line: “Rome will lose the faith & become the seat of the Antichrist.”

Calvat visited the Sanctuary at La Salette for the last time on September 18-19, 1902. In the last months of her life, she lived at Altamura, Italy, where she didn’t reveal her identity. Her identity was revealed only AFTER her death.

She passed away on December 14, 1904, at her home in Altamura, Italy. She was interred in Altamura under a marble monument with a bas-relief picturing the Virgin Mary welcoming the “shepherdess of La Salette” into Heaven.

I want to see Peter Theil and Paul Kingsnorth in a room together.

Theil states that the development of "AI" is heralding the Second Coming of Christ as foretold in the Biblical Book of Revelations He has stated that be believes that anyone who opposes the development of AI is an agent of the Biblical antichrist.

Kingsnorth believes that "AI" itself is the actual Biblical antichrist and the people developing it are agents of the Devil. Anyone who opposes "AI" is therefore carrying out the Lord's work.

They are both apparently very Christian men. You have to be a Christian to believe in the existence of the antichrist after all.

Their common frame of reference is their religion. This means that they cannot both be right as their views are in complete opposition. I guess they would accuse one another of lying about their faith and beliefs right at the start of the argument. Sooner or later the words "no real Christian" would be used, probably sooner. So would "you are In league with the devil".

Of course there is a (incredibly) high probability that they are both wrong at least in their choice of conceptual framework to attempt to describe the development of "AI". To my mind they are both co-opting the language and metaphors of a belief system they understand in order to attempt to describe the characteristics of something entirely novel. Even if there really is a god and every word of the bible is true I think they are both comparing apples to oranges.

To create this new conceptual framework there has to be an urgent debate on the morals and ethics of "AI" development. Of course this will draw heavily on existing areas of culture such as morals, ethics, epistemology, art, economics, politics, power, money and more. There is a need to expand these fields and invent new language and concepts to describe what is occurring and could possibly occur in the novel field of "AI" development.

Even if the terms of the debate are not fully realized debate is still possible using existing cultural and philosophical frameworks while the required new frameworks are created. Many people who take part in the existing debates about "AI" are convinced there is a significant risk that developing ever more "advanced" "AI" poses an existential risk to humanity and all of life on the planet. There are a vast array of ways this could come about from the mundane to the potentially insane.

It appears these concerns and views are often ignored or shouted down by capitalists, politicians and even the users of "AI" . It also appears that many of the people actually working on developing "AI" express the same deep concerns about the destructive potential of their work in private but carry on with their work regardless.

I guess that Kingsnorth would say these developers are agents of the Adversary and Thiel would say they are doing the Lord's work. I personally think the developers / managers / investors etc carry on regardless purely for prestige, fame and fortune. Those are all powerful and highly addictive motivations for doing anything and many people find them irresistible.

Personally I don't need religious metaphors to think about "AI". I think its creators are deluded fools and / or psychopaths. I think that people who generate slop are lazy and ignorant. I think that the people who accept slop as art are gullible fools.

For me at least the existential threat posed by "AI" slop is the destruction of all meaning in human art, culture and civilization. All art, culture and civilization is an expression of meaning. All humans derive meanings of all kinds from art, culture and civilization. They combine to create humanity itself.

Slop is meaningless gibberish based on a statistical analysis of prior art. The process of generating slop eliminates all meaning and produces mere "content". (That is a very telling word in my view)

When everything beyond an individual humans personal existence has no meaning what hope is there for humanity? In the past humanity screamed art, culture and civilization and most importantly meaning into the void in the hope that that other humans recognized and understood the message their screams attempted to convey. "AI" is the void screaming meaningless slop at humanity.

Perhaps we will merge with the machines and become one with God in Heaven as Thiel envisages. Perhaps "AI" / The Adversary will triumph and doom us all to endless torment as Kingsnorth predicts.

Both Kingsnorth and Theil are right that meaning and belief are vital to the debate. Their choice of belief system to frame the debate is the problem I have with their arguments.

I think humanity will go collectively insane. Humans need to believe that their actions are meaningful. When slop eradicates our belief in the power of art, culture, civilization and humanity to give meaning to our lives we will all go bug fuck insane.

Paul Kingsnorth's latest book #AgainstTheMachine has an interesting thesis.

Basically he says that the unstoppable rise of AI is the coming of the #antichrist from the bibical book of revelation.

Well if the #RaptureOfTheNerds ever does happen there will be a non-human intelligence that is superior to humans. I believe the terms weakly or strongly god-like are banded about by the "AI" adherents.

Its fairly obvious that the "AI" adherents are some form of cult. They behave like the followers of some bearded acid casualty living in the desert. They talk of "transcending" and "improving" humanity by merging our physical bodies and minds with machines. They want to make humanity anew in the image of what Kingsnorth calls "The Machine".

Kingsnorth himself is a convert to Orthodox Christianity from paganism and talks widely about his faith. He asks this question of the "AI" cultists, "What if this is not a metaphor?" Is the rise of "AI" really the actual return of the Adversary (as the devil / Satan) used to be called before Islamic eschatology was adsorbed into Christianity. Is the rapture of the nerds and the biblical rapture the same thing?

I am not a religious person whatsoever. I note the similarities in the use of language and metaphor between Christians and "AI" cultists. I guess the "AI" cultists are by and large Christian as many of them are from the former USA. They are steeped in the language, metaphor and culture of the Christian Church. Its easy for them to co-opt the language from the Church into "AI". Its also noticeable that #AntiAI people like me use religious language and metaphors. I call the "AI" #techbros cultists after all.

I am very concerned about the damage "AI" is wreaking in the technological, social, environmental, political and more aspects of human life. I think "AI" should be killed with fire right now. "Take off an nuke the site from orbit, its the only way to be sure" is a good idea in my book. Stop using and creating "AI" right now. Bury it deep underground like nuclear waste. Its just as dangerous after all.

I would like to see an debate between Paul Kingsnorth and Peter Theil. They both talk about the coming of the antichrist a great deal. Theil and Palantir can be seen the pinnacle of Kingsnorth's Machine in flesh and code form. I wonder if Theil has even heard of Kingsnorth and his book?
