I looked at MX recently after the Solus install on my one desktop machine self-immolated.

They now have systemd and non-systemd isos. To me, that's one foot in the door of going systemd-only. 😔

UPDATE: I looked, and this is no longer the case. It seems they're committed to the path of offering both systemd and sysvinit, so that's nice.

I installed #Antix instead.

Never could figure out how to get my encrypted /home partition on a separate SSD to auto-mount, so now I just have a fake ~/.bashrc that mounts my luks-encrypted home dir and logs out. Second log-in should be to the real homedir.

Couldn't find a doc that could explain the process of mounting luks-encrypted disks at boot satisfactorily.
And people don't believe me when I say that linux has a critical documentation problem. 🙄

Today I helped at the Linux repair cafe. There was a man with a win vista laptop with just 2GB RAM, we managed to dual boot it with antix linux, worked like a charm! Good performance as well! #antix #linux

I was given a HP Stream 7 tablet yesterday, Originally it ran Windows 8 - Which must have been highly optimized for this. It only has 1gb ram, and 32gb storage. With an #Intel #Atom Z3235G quad core. So I tried to install #linux on it. The biggest frustration I'm having with it thou, is the #EFI only supports #32bit boot. And I've only found #Antix to actually install, but I can't get wifi to work, or sound. I think #Lubuntu might work but it fails at installing grub i386.

Estoy intentando revivir una Compaq CQ1 (All-in-One) instalando antiX 23 (32-bit) desde un USB, pero me quedo el cerebro frito
Lo que ya intente:
1️⃣ Limpieza total del pendrive con diskpart.
2️⃣ Grabación con Win32 Disk Imager (error ldlinux.c32).
3️⃣ Grabación con Rufus en Modo DD, esquema MBR, con "correcciones para BIOS antiguas" activadas.

@PCzanik@fosstodon.org start with linux mint's default desktop environment, cinnamon. If it's too heavy and doesn'trun smoothly, go to a fedora, debian, or Ubuntu flavour that comes with either xfce or lxqt desktop environments which are quite lightweight. If it still doesn't run smoothly, I recommend #antix . It's not very beginner friendly but it's very lightweight and should run like lightning. I believe KDE and GNOME installations will be too heavy in any case.
