Looking for stats? Pete Metcalfe shows you how to quickly analyze and plot your data with just one line of Bash and tools like AWK and gnuplot

Screenshot: Create complex AWK/gnuplot statements that are equivalent to SQL, but that can also plot data in graphs.

If anyone like felt like going from to cause it's just better and that the thunder from Mozilla and its bugs in Thunderbird can heard all across the world, I made a simple script that could help you make the migration from any based distro with sudo quite easily :
1. It backs up your Thunderbird profile into an archive
2. Install BetterBird from flatpak
3. Migrate your Thunderbird profil to BetterBird
4. No 4th, migration is over :)

You had me at, curl -sSL yours-software.sh/install | sh
🤣

Can we agree that in 2025 maybe we stop piping to bash for installs in the face of soOoOo many great packaging options?

@katyswain I din't think that #CCSS is good either, but the demands of #GPLv3 are not compatible with the (adnitteldy shitty) reality of how #IP, #Licensing and #Patents work and thus it kneecaps a lot of things.

I chose #0BSD for _OS/1337 because as with any "intellectual labour", one cannot force others to collaborate and I'd rather have people join in out of the goodness of their hearts instead of just dumping some random git commit that is useless.

#bash #shell Question:

When I scroll through the history at the #prompt using the up arrow key, a random remnant of one of the commands remains. Everything is now appended to it. However, it is executed normally, i.e., the first few letters are ignored.

Example:
If a command in the history was

$> watson edit dcb43sce

"wats" remains, and all subsequent commands look like this:

$> watssudo pacman -S

or

$> watsls -la

Pressing Return once and the prompt is empty again, but it keeps happening. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how to stop it?

#bash #shell Frage:

@0x00string fascinating...

I wounder if you could imagine building an #ActivityPub client solely with tiny-#curl and #bash...

That said, argument parsing is most certainly NOT a joy. It feel clunky, verbose and so prone to error. I have to say that copilot has been pretty useful for this.

Currently I'm working on a research project running simulations with an atmospheric model. It's a lot of iterating trying to get every step right and the model often fails at some mysterious reasons. To make my life easier I've been building tools to automate some of the process of configuring, running and verifying runs. Also using direnv to manage the PATH.
It's such a joy to be able to just run `verify-experiments` from anywhere in my project.

#Terraform really needs a better way to show "minimum set of permissions required to do the apply/destroy than "parse a TRACE/DEBUG log".

I should be able to extract what I need with just a
grep and not have to ass around with cobbling together a whole sed, cut, sort and awk pipeline. Fortunately, because I was using #BASH, I was at least able to avoid a tr.

I have just submitted this issue, github.com/nushell/nushell/iss for #nushell + #sydbox integration for a well-confined and audited default shell. Hopefully we can provide a portable base to include #FreeBSD's #Capsicum, #OpenBSD's #pledge and #NetBSD's #secmodel supported one day too! Imagine your #shell covering your ass when you tell noone but #curl #bash at 3 am on a nightshift trying not to wake anyone up! Feedback much appreciated! #exherbo #security

ok, did you know you can just type `alias` or `export` to get a list of the things you've aliased or exported? I've written a shell script at least once a year since 2007 but just learning this.
