in 1913, wanted in connection with a New York triple-murder, Oreste Shillitani surrenders to police.
in 1930, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics is created within the U.S. Treasury Department, combining the functions of the Federal Narcotics Control Board and the Narcotic Division.
in 1932, a federal grand jury indicts 45 members of a Wisconsin-Illinois-Michigan liquor syndicate.
in 1937, San Francisco crime boss Francesco Lanza dies of natural causes, leaving Anthony Lima in charge.
in 1939, Carmine Tramunti is sent to Sing Sing Prison for parole violation after being arrested with Charles Albero, Eddie Coco and Frank Noto. In Massachusetts, Raymond Patriarca is charged with auto theft and payroll robbery in two different courtrooms.
in 1954, Stephen 'Buck Jones' Casertano dies in New York.
in 1978, Anthony Provenzano and Harold Konigsberg are convicted of the 1961 New Jersey murder of Anthony Castellito.
in 1986, brothers Anthony and Michael Spilotro, Chicago racketeers, are fatally beaten by Outfit killers.
in 1991, Orlando Carabbia of Ohio begins a prison sentence for bribery.

#OTD in 1911, #KansasCity Police Officer Joseph #Raimo was murdered on his way home from a night of card-playing at a Little Italy saloon. He was struck from behind by a combination of large shot and smaller pellets fired from two shotguns. The community immediately concluded that the officer had learned the details of recent #BlackHand murders and was silenced by gangsters.

#Buffalo residents report an attempted #BlackHand bombing #OTD in 1918. They turn over an explosive device to police. (They are arrested a few days later for placing the #bomb at their own home in order to frighten away some family members.)

Arthur Train devoted an entire chapter of his 1922 book to the 1905 #Torsiello murder, the investigation by #Petrosino and the trial and punishment of Antonio #Strollo. The book included a photo of an alleged #BlackHand letter Strollo used in his defense.

When brought to trial in 1905 for the #BronxNY #murder of a fellow Italian immigrant, defendant Antonio #Strollo introduced this "#BlackHand" note as evidence, saying it was written by the real killer. Prosecutors proved the handwriting was Strollo's.
