‘Don’t throw away your old #clothes – do this 1 thing instead’

#RepairCafes are popping up in the UK where volunteers are learning how to #repair, #mend and #fix #garments or #electronics to avoid buying new items

"A stitch in time may just save the planet as Britons’ nimble fingers do their bit to prevent 1.4billion garments from going to landfill. Nearly one in three adults (32%) have thrown away new clothes in the last years amid the rise of fast fashion.

"But retired nurse Debbie Kennedy, 60, is among the people who have joined a #RepairCafe where clothes are #mended. She described how attending the #GreenerAndCleanerHub’s #knitting and #crochet group in #Bromley, London, has also helped 'repair those bits of me that have been broken along the way'. Ms Kennedy said: 'As I was approaching retirement after 40 years of nursing, I wanted to ensure that I continued to feel productive and give something back to the community and maintain my health and wellbeing.' "

Some finds from their comprehensive display in the little Coronation Hall nearby, itself an interesting artefact from days gone by. I’m told some influential members of #Bromley Council were in attendance so let’s hope the hard working ODAS volunteers continue to get the support they deserve.

Fragments of pottery from the bath-house. These are from pots called "mortaria" which were used for preparing food. Mortaria were lined with grits so that spices could be ground in them. You can see grits on these pieces. We find large amounts of butchered animal bone on Roman sites.
The most common bones found
are of cattle, sheep and pig.
We also find large
numbers of oyster shells.
Oysters were gathered from the beds along the north Kent coast and transported by boat or cart to London and local markets.

Major plans for Crystal Palace Park. But what are they?

You may have seen this article in Newsshopper: newsshopper.co.uk/news/2491349

The proposals for the redevelopment of Rockhill come as no surprise but finding out what they are is challenging. This is the link to planning notice DC/20/00325/OUT: searchapplications.bromley.gov

I got 'not found' for the other one.

You have only to next Tuesday (18th) to digest and respond. Although we live near the park we were not notified by the council. Can anyone help and dissect the proposals. Councillors?

Did you know you were living in a property hotspot? A survey of national home price increases since 2000 has:

Lewisham West & Penge, 12th place 491%
Dulwich & West Norwood, 14th place 481%

Delford, Camberwell & Peckham also feature making pretty much of Lewisham and Southwark combined probably the hottest boroughs in the country.

Good for existing homeowners, bad for prospective homeowners and those fearing gentrification from middle class professionals.

Two companies fined after failing to license in buff.ly/4g4k4f1
reminded us that its not uncommon. It's probably one of the things thats most forgotten about, but as we know, getting a from councils is really simple to do.

Surpised this morning to find the cricket pitch at Crystal Palace Park invaded by Zippo's Circus. No warning, no consultation as Bromley's Trust sells out our park to commercial interests while allowing it to deterate from a jewel of London to the mess it is today.

Zippo's are here for the week and we can expect the usual turf damage.

View from Sydenham Gate across cricket pitch with path to the children's play are to right. Whole area is occupied by dozens of hgv and caravans. Two tents are being erected.Detail of the main tent being erected on cables passing over two scaffold towers with flags on the top.
