The focus is to enhance the representation of ocean biogeochemical processes, carbon-climate feedbacks, and ocean carbon storage under changing emissions in the new generation #EarthSystemModel ICON-XPP.

These novel simulations will contribute to #CMIP7 and the next #IPCC assessment of #climatechange.

This week I'm attending (online) a hybrid workshop on the #IceSheet contribution to #CMIP7 (#ISMIP7). Co-ordinator Sophie Nowicki shows the photo from our first meeting 10 years ago almost to the day...

Today I'm at #ESA's #ESRIN site for the joint European Commission - ESA Earth System Science Initiative, representing @PolarRES + @OceanIceEU today and tomorrow in plenary talks.
The topic: how to better use Earth Observation data with #ClimateModels to understand the Earth System. It's a big topic but one I've been working on for some years.
First some input from #CMIP on the next intercomparison for the #IPCC - #CMIP7

From October 2023 until the culmination of CMIP7, I am honored to serve as a member of the Advisory Group for the ScenarioMIP Scientific Steering Committee. I hope to contribute to ScenarioMIP SSC and its Advisory Group by providing unique insights into East Asian contexts and the nuances of systems ecology.

Just starting the final review meeting for IS-ENES3 (https://is.enes.org/) - the final EC funded I3 infrastructure project for #enes. We have supported a lot of #climate modelling, including #cmip5 and #cmip6, and are preparing for #cmip7.

While it is the last of this type of funding (more than a decade of EC support), we plan to maintain an element of coordination of activities via a new “ENES club” - and use a range of grant funding for specific activities.

You will hear more from ENES!

I’m sitting in a CMIP task team considering what we should do for model documentation (and the simulation workflow) in CMIP7: we will be threading the needle between what modellers will actually do (creating information) and what users (using information) need or want to know.
