The Spectre Returns 👻 for #spookysaturday

A recreation and homage to "The Spectre of Newby Church". It was one of the first famous "ghost photos" that actually scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.
This spectre is not in Newby though, this one is in La Cripta di San Zama in Bologna. It's an ancient 11th- century, three-nave, Romanesque structure made from repurposed Roman materials, including a 3rd-century floor! ✨

The black and white photo is of a stone crypt (San Zama) featuring a series of arched openings supported by ornate columns. At the far end, three crosses stand on top of an altar, illuminated by a light. The floors are stone-paved and worn, with a cross etched into one of the stones near the foreground. A translucent figure, wearing a long, dark robe and the white mask like that of a plague doctor, stands to the right, (recreating the face of the Spectre of Newby) almost blending into the stonework. The grainy texture and high contrast help make it feel like an old photo.

Pittsburgh is frozen solid right now. We’re still digging out from the heavy snow of Winter Storm Fern. But the reflection? That’s Playa Puerto Hermina.
My wife (@happyhealthybabeofficial@instagram.com) and I built this image not to show "reality vs. fantasy," but to show the whole picture. Ice on the frame, salt in the air.

It's really hard to find good tentacle pictures that look kind of similar! And I still haven't got the hang of making fog, but oh well! 😂 The background and the boat are from a picture I took at home in Ireland and the moon is from one I took at home in Italy.

A full moon hangs in the upper left quadrant of the dark blue sky, partially obscured by clouds. Below, the sea is shrouded in a thick layer of fog. From the foggy waters, four colossal octopus tentacles rise, their surfaces marked with rows of circular, amberish-coloured suckers. The tentacles are a muted blue-green hue and curl inward. Near the centre, a small white boat is dwarfed by the tentacles. In the foreground, a dark, rough bush is visible at the bottom of the image. (I do not remember what kind of bush it is)

Digital trichrome triple-exposure, using a Steinheil 55mm f5.6 in a Prontor Press leaf shutter adapted to a Sony A7. Three photos with red, green and blue filters respectively, are exposed with the leaf shutter with the camera in bulb mode. The camera is controlled by a microcontroller operating the camera shutter via the remote interface. The microcontroller counts the exposures of the leaf shutter using its PC flash sync connection and ends the exposure after the leaf shutter fired a set number of times.

Step in Time for #spookysaturday

When I was a kid I was loaned a book by a family friend. In it were all things paranormal and I remember being fascinated with the ghost photos. The one that scared me the most was 'The Spectre of Newby Church', still is a bit unsettling to be honest.
So, this photo is a little bit of a love-letter to the paranormal and to Jack, who loaned me the book. He's no longer with us but his memory lives on. ♥️ (And it wasn't spontaneous combustion as the book would have led me to believe, I really thought adults were going up in flames left right and centre all over the shop) ✨
