Is water wet?

bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct5rjk

> The wetness of water seems obvious - but dive into the science and it's not so clear cut. We take a closer look at what wetness really is.

Answering this question turned out to be more interesting than I thought.

#CrowdScience listener Sid is running late, and he’s turning to science to find an excuse. He and his partner Steffi in Singapore have very different attitudes to timekeeping. They wonder if this is down to their different cultural upbringings, or if they just had very different brains to start with.

Presenter Chhavi Sachdev (me) puts her own time perception skills to the test to try to understand how subjective our sense of time can be. And we discover how the language we grow up speaking can influence the way we think about punctuality.

Maybe #CrowdScience will be what will help us keep track of human made changes to the planet?

@Itty53 @lorgonumputz @RickiTarr There is a BBC #CrowdScience podcast discussing psychopathy; the person who asked the question was a nurse in a children's hospital and it emerged that, yes, some psychopathy might actually have helped her do her job in very emotional and difficult circumstances. It's a complex thing.

@sellathechemist @jeppe it's a very nice project, I believe they have different science topics each year. They also say in the piece that they found a species of lichen that was thought to be extinct in Denmark, it only grows in undisturbed locations. We have a (crowdsourced) nature database in DK (naturbasen) where you can put your observations and I checked it out.

I really enjoyed this podcast episode because I've actually pondered about this question myself before, just like the 11 year old who called in and asked them. Considering the wide range of activities we humans can do just with the energy we get from our daily meals, it really makes you wonder how efficient we are as a species, compared to machines, other animals, etc.

Bornholm, a Danish island with a population of about 40,000, is trying to achieve a zero carbon society by 2025 and a zero *waste* society by 2032. Great #CrowdScience podcast that looks into how they are doing this.

Inspiring to hear of communities that are pushing hard for more #sustainability.

Great to be out at #JodrellBank this afternoon to record for the #BBCWorldService #CrowdScience programme with presenter Marnie Chesterton and producer Phil Sansom. The weather played ball, so we were able to record outside. However, the #woodpeckers were determined to be heard! The program, on the #DrakeEquation and the possibility of life elsewhere in the #Galaxy, should appear in mid April on the BBC World Service and on BBC Sounds.
