Was in London today for a caselaw seminar on the Unified Patent Court. I walked from St. Pancras railway station to The Law Society in Chancery Lane, about 25 min, in sunny weather. What impressed me most though, was the separated cycling infrastructure along Grays Inn Road. Not perfect by any means, but still, the number of bikes out was pretty significant. Of course, the tube strike had helped boost numbers, no doubt, but still, I never thought I'd see the day when London reminded me of the Netherlands.

This is not difficult. You 'only' need a change in mentality. Proritize people instead of cars. Making driving less convenient. For real. The commitment by government supported by its people. Study the problem and device a solution. Emplement them.

@IBIKEDublin @ccferrie @OisinOConnor @d_mathieson @clickhere The promised safe cycling infrastructure has turned into a tourism grab - don't get me wrong, I love greenways, but we also need commuting #CyclingInfrastructure - protected and networked and separated from cars. It's not a big ask, and it will have enormous effects on health and prosperity (releasing €10k per unused car per year, cutting cancer, T2 diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, making kids self-reliant & healthy)
Sometimes, there is a proper cycling path too! But don't rejoy too fast: it's often shared with pedestrians, and in any case interrupts after at most a few km. Such as this half-finished round-about leading nowhere.
If the gambit is "you'll get cycling lanes if we got more roads to put on the side of", that's not a very good proposition...

Let's talk about cycling infrastructure in Northern Spain. Most of the time, it's inexistant, simply a sign warning about the possibility of cyclists, with a fine print to overtake with a 1.5m distance written in microscopic font that no driver will ever be able to read. Which wasn't too bad as traffic is low outside of urban areas: after all, despite being clearly a car-first country, Spain isn't densely populated. #CyclingInfrastructure
