It's happy anniversary to us!
44 years married. Love him even more than I did back then!
I had a Eureka moment on the way to meet up with him to watch a movie 45 years ago. We had so much we enjoyed doing together: I suddenly realised that I could be happy in my life. That was a new concept to me and he made it come true.
Thank you

So I'm trying to recover from an infection, just sitting quietly by the fire with Zaz sleeping on my knee when the thought of #WhiskersWednesday passed through my brain (surely I didn't say it out loud) when this happened.
(Follow her immediate - and predictable - reactions in the comments in the thread)

Happy Caturday to all who celebrate!
Zaz is determined to lift my spirits and entertain me.
She's doing a good job. Who wouldn't feel better watching her have fun?
And did you catch that flash of toe beans? Such a coy madame. (And of course the whiskers...)
Have a good day, all. Hugs to those who need them.

My friends should be glad that we mask!
I was too sick to eat much yesterday (a bad flare that's lasted over a week now) and this morning I realised how strong our breath must smell of garlic! Steven did eat our usual, so I got a good chance to smell his unmasked breath.
So not only are we protecting ourselves from airborne diseases, we are also protecting everyone else from our garlic breath! Ha ha.
We're really loving our new Flow Mask Pros we got this week, especially with the halo strap. We got ours through @donatemask . It is super comfortable.
I'm looking forward to being well enough to go out and wear it!

Perhaps not the best thing to do when I'm not well, but it seems that now is the time to switch from forwarding to Gmail to using Thunderbird IMAP for our website emails.
Any tips or pitfalls I should be aware of anyone?
Okay, Zaz is beginning to be annoyed with me now.
Zaz: "Is it #WhiskersWednesday or isn't it? What's wrong with my whiskers? Aren't they good enough for your catty friends on Mastodon? Well....?"
Me: "I know what side my bread's buttered (margerined) on. Here you go.
The lovely Zaz. And her excellent whiskers. Don't let me down, my "catty" friends!"

For #tongueOutTuesday and #TabbyTuesday I present to you:
Zaz
She's enjoying the sun on her back on her favourite human's chair while he's somewhere else. The sun shows off her lovely flame bits in her curly coat, too. I think she knows that, don't you?
Enjoy whatever moments of sunshine and joy that you find, friends.

Fragile
An Italian musician I really enjoy is Claudio Constantini. He plays bandoneon and piano and shares beautiful reflections on music and life in general in his newsletter.
He's just released his 15th album, "Fragile" and these are some of his thoughts on the music and life as we're living it at the moment.
(link to his full text below where you can find a link to listen on your chosen service, or find it also on Qobuz which isn't in the link.)
"Life shapes us in different ways, through a mix of our upbringing, our influences, and our innate character. Some of us are built to withstand more than others. But at our core, we are extremely fragile beings, subject to the unpredictability of the world. Often, we find ourselves without the tools to face situations that feel much bigger than we are.
What I find beautiful, inspiring, even moving, is our resilience β our will to keep going despite being just tiny individuals in a vast, unfathomable universe.
Fragility is a defining part of who we are, all of us, and of the world around us."

What makes you think I might be reluctant to admit that summer's gone?
Actually, I think faded and 'dead' flowers are rather lovely.
I think I have to accept it, summer is over.

Ping Pong says Zaz has it all wrong: people want to see a bit of dignity...
Very disapproving of all those antics.
And besides, she likes being on Mastodon.
So do I, Ping, so do I.

I have a feeling that Zaz is a bit fed up with Ping Pong getting all the attention for the past couple of weeks, so she's showing off her athletic prowess.
I think she's hoping to bring a smile to anyone who needs one right now.
Have a happy #Caturday everyone! If you don't celebrate, have a great day!

Note to self:
Get out earlier!
I was stuck on the chair, half dozing, not feeling great, debating whether to go so a bit late getting out.
But I'm so glad I went. It makes me feel better every time.
It's always worth it.

So tempting to sit and scroll...
Better to get out and stroll (Apologies. That was totally cringeworthy.)
I had a thought as my dog Joni was (as I thought) dilly dallying and sniffing everything on the walk this evening:
If we couldn't read or understand what the markings on a page were, how could we understand someone spending 5 or so minutes staring at each page? Dogs get so much information through their noses and so patience is the answer. I guess this is stimulating to her, just as reading a book is to me. Even though it's all meaningless to me. I'm the ignorant one here.
Have a good evening, fedifolks. Get out and stroll if you can, with or without a 4-legged sniffer. You'll be so glad you did.

@StevenKennard did a great job of cutting my hair. Nicely layered.
It's so nice to have your own private hairdresser.
He's the most talented man I know.
It's the untamed lion look, I think.
Thanks Steve!
Go for it!
Tonight's walk was not too cold (although I have to say hooray for warm clothes that help) and the dramatic sky again was inspiring. Neither of us felt particularly that we wanted to leave the warm fire, but forced ourselves in spite of it.
It's always worth getting out for a walk or a ride even if it's a bit of a push to actually do it.
The first comment below contains a door directly into the light for any who want to pass through.
Goodnight or good day all!

Today was a day we finally got to take our new bikes on the back roads and rail trail from here to Wolfville. It was a 43km ride on a cloudy, coldish but above freezing day, with a nice break for lunch and a coffee on a bench outside the cafe. Our cycle bib tights chamois kept our bums from getting too cold, fortunately.
When we were almost home we could see the sunset was spectacular, though by the time this was taken the best was over. Still worthy of a photo. And a reflection (photo in the first comment).
Enjoy your weekend, friends.
They were just sitting looking at each other.
A little #Caturday story about Ping.
Picture this:
Two or three days a week, I have a video chat of about an hour with my father-in-law 3000 miles away in England, who is soon 95, unable to move from his chair or wheelchair without assistance and with no friends or relatives to speak to. His only real contact is us, and his carers who come in four times a day to look after his needs. Sometimes I arrange his grocery shopping for him, sometimes I order him other things he needs, but mostly we just sit and talk and he reminisces. He struggles a little with the technology, but somehow we manage.
When it's my days to talk to him, I sit on a sofa with my tea and it's become a habit for Ping Pong to sit on my lap while I chat and stroke her. When I finish talking, she goes off. On the days when I don't speak to him, and Steven has taken the call somewhere else, she'll come meowing and meowing after me to get me to go and sit there with her. In the end, usually I have to give in, and take my tea and we sit on the sofa together. She doesn't often ask for cuddles, so this is a special time for her.
On Thursday this week, I was talking to my father-in-law when I realized that my bed cover that I had washed was ready to be hung up to dry in front of the fire, to be put back on the bed that night. As this was rather urgent, I asked him to wait and said I'd be right back after I'd hung the cover up. I lifted Ping up and went and got that sorted. After a few minutes when I came back, I was met with the scene of Ping, sitting upright, very proper, in my place on the sofa, just as you see her in this photo unblinking, looking at the phone screen at my father-in-law who was looking back at her. Neither was saying a word. They were just looking at each other. The two of them looked so funny.
It was as if she felt she was taking over from me. My father-in-law said "she's been looking after me". And that's just what it seemed like. She wouldn't move on her own to give me my place, so I had to lift her aside so I could sit down. My father-in-law is not a cat person, so obviously he didn't know what to say to her. And she didn't feel the need to say anything either.
Cats. Who can fathom them?
Have a happy Caturday, everyone! If you don't celebrate, have a great day!
