⚠️ If you are using Debian stable, DON'T UPGRADE THE KERNEL NOW. Read this instead:
https://lists.debian.org/debian-announce/2023/msg00005.html
An ext4 corruption bug apparently slipped in (Linux kernel 6.1.64-1). Bug report:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1057843
Associated threads on the debian-user and debian-release mailing lists can be found at [1] and [2]. The problem was also discussed[3] on Linux Weekly News. As far as I know, it is not Debian-specific at all (affects vanilla Linux kernels 6.1.64 and 6.1.65—see ewen's comment[4]). Some technical details are given in a message[5] by Thorsten Leemhuis.
If you already upgraded to the kernel shipped in the upcoming 12.3 point release[6] and haven't rebooted into it yet, make sure you boot into the old kernel until the problem is fixed.
