I think I'm just about ready to call this. I guess I'll try to go a bit longer, but I want to use my PC already! I think I've finally dialed in stable numbers, but I'll increase voltages a bit from what I've worked out to add extra leeway once I'm done.

Man what a pain this has been. Cores 2 and 3 in particular really hate me.

Meanwhile the entire CCD2 is over there sitting at -50 on all cores without a single care in the world. I've given up on even testing it anymore. I'll bump it up in final numbers to be safe, but CCD2 probably was produced for a threadripper or something and just had one (disabled) core fail to meet specs or something. Darn I wish CCD1 was even just half as good as it.

A screenshot of CoreCycler running in a PE live session. It has been testing cores 0-5 for 16 hours without a single error thrown so far. (Many days of testing have preceeded this, this is after dialing in numbers during all that time.) I wish this was a bit easier, but modern processors are such a hot mess!

I have gone almost five full days without gaming on my gaming computer and I am going crazy.

Partially I have to go through all this because I wanted a large HSF tower instead of an AIO. It sounds weird I know, but I'm thinking in terms of what lasts longest and while the fans will eventually break down (though they should last a really long time!) they're pretty easy and cheap to replace, whereas with an AIO, even if you can get to the parts individually, it would be ridiculously hard to replace. And a true water cooling setup is expensive and requires more maintenance potentially. So I need a negative PBO curve to keep things cooler and quieter from a modern processor built with water cooling in mind. (I'm almost tempted to reduce boost though...)

#Overclocking #ComputerHardware

Ugh. I really miss the days of overclocking just being set a voltage, set a speed, run Prime95 overnight, and find a point where it's stable. Modern multicore, even multi-chip processors sure make it a lot more complicated. Especially since most now can't take running all cores at a fixed speed (I managed to do it with my last processor, but it was six core, single CCD and I don't see any way a two CCD processor could do it at a decent speed.) I'll admit PBO is a lot better overall since it tunes individual cores, but finding the optimal undervolt offsets for each core is... wow what a pain! (I guess I could do per CCD, but it's still almost as much work and not good results since two cores would really hold me back!)

#Overclocking #Computers #ComputerHardware

Still working on tuning my new CPU, but crazy results so far. One core, (core 3) was highly resistant to reducing values and went down fast to -25 in my testing with core 2 eventually following it all the way there. Though Core 5 may be impressive as it seems to be holding -45 so far. But meanwhile the entire second CCD is currently sitting at... wait for it...

-50!

I don't know how that's even possible, but cores 6-11 are all at -50 and stable so far in initial testing. A lot more testing is needed and expect that to fall, but darn... I never imagined I'd ever see even one core stable at such a low voltage curve, much less an entire CCD and not just for seconds, but through several tests.

That means at 5.65GHz at something like 1.225V I think.

Talking with the folks in the local #vintage / #retrocomputing community, they clued me in that the #ThinkPad #RAID is a steaming pile of πŸ’© and not worth the trouble.

🀷 Oh well. Thanks for cluing me in

So I swapped out the two testing #NVMe drives I was using and reinstalled the original sticks - to have #windoz10 demanding for the #bitlocker recovery key. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Well, time to wipe & install #windoz11 then.

Install went fine, only 4 rando #drivers to find for all #devices to be recognized and working.

Using my #CTT scripts to install the majority of applications, then to remove the #spyware #bloatware and other garbage #micro$oft added to #windows11

Then migrate my #data from my other ThinkPad. Welcome to my #sunday #funday

Ok, I spent yesterday afternoon trying to get #RAID configured on my #lenovo #ThinkPad #P70 - to no success.

I found this video youtube.com/watch?v=AyCC1NGe8a of the similar #p50 and configuring #RAID which shows the #BIOS interface but my P70's only show the "non-raid physical discs" I do not have an option for RAID volumes. Note I have upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version on lenovo's web site. Any thoughts?

I have attached 2 #screenshots of what the BIOS displays - I'm trying to configure the RAID on the two 512GB #NVMe sticks.

I scored 2 #Thinkpad #X260 laptops at #EFM #electronicsfleamarket in March with a handful of batteries for really cheap.
a i7 2.6Ghz and an i5 2.4Ghz

The i7 is immaculate, and is running great.
The i5 has some issues. Opening it up it was missing the SSD and SODIMM RAM, and I noted some corrosion on the aluminum frame around the SSD slot.

Getting it to moot up, there is this really weird spotting and "worms" with the #LCD that is really distracting. Not sure how this happened - and would love any insights as to the what & why this happened.
I suspect just easier to swap out the 12.5" 1366x768 for something with better resolution?

I did order two 32 GB DDR4 2666 SODIMMs from #aliexpress - the unofficial max #RAM for these X260's - and they work great. Both the i7 & the i5 detect the SODIMMs in the BIOS and in Win11. I initially had some spare 16GB SODIMMs in them, but why not max out the RAM when most apps and browsers are memory hogs lately?
