For today's #DecembArt, I'm sharing a screenshot from my ongoing #StickersAndStamps project. Folks sign up. I mail a sticker to them. They tell me when it arrives. This creates the data for a visualization I've been working on: artatomic.itch.io/stickers-and

It's Tuesday which means it's time for #TidyTuesday where we're looking at data on roundabouts this week! 📊

I zoomed in on East Kilbride - a town with a large (but debated) number of roundabouts 🚗

Code: github.com/nrennie/tidytuesday

A map of roads in East Kilbride with roundabouts represented by points. There are 11 points highlighted in yellow in the North West area, and many other small white points scattered around. Text reads East Kilbride is nicknamed the Polo Mint City due to its numerous roundabouts that resemble the mint sweet. The Kittelson & Associates roundabouts database lists 11 roundabouts in East Kilbride. However, according to Traffic Scotland, as of 2022, there are 600 of them in the East Kilbride area. OpenStreetMap lists a total of 1,679 roundabouts though many of them appear to be duplicates.

here's an fully scientific & valid plot to demonstrate this effect

#infoviz #dataviz

A graph titled "Why finishing a long-stalled task feels worse than expected". The x-axis shows "Time spent half-done" from 0 to 40 days, and the y-axis shows "Feeling when task is finished" ranging from -2 to 4.

The graph displays a smooth curve showing that completing tasks that were half-done for less than a week feels rewarding (around +4). As the half-done duration increases, the reward steadily decreases, crossing the zero-reward line at about 15 days. After that, finishing long-delayed tasks actually feels negative, reaching about -2 for tasks that remained half-done for 30-40 days.

Scattered data points around the curve represent individual observations with slight variations. A horizontal red line marks "reward=0", and an annotation points to the "Negative reward zone" below this line.

Only 2.4% of meteorites were actually observed falling. The other 97.6%? Found later, often centuries after impact. Explored this in a new dashboard with NASA's meteorite landing data.
