@Badger @riggbeck We weren't able to include it in our book (https://ghostsigns.co.uk/book), but here is an archival photo of the wall in your first picture.

What's most visible now, and in your picture, is a portion of a later sign. This was preserved by a billboard that occupied the wall for some period, while the space around it faded to nothing.

Both signs advertised pawnbrokers, with the more recent one being J.A. & G.E. Smith.

There are various bits of signage on the building, but most prominent is a huge painted wall sign that fills an area the full width of the building by the upper two storeys. It has the name, 'A.T. Pocock' in huge letters at the top, and 'pawnbroker' in slightly smaller letters along the bottom. Between these are details of services and the date of establishment, 1894.
