Kristin is messing around. Already too wet soil from more than 120 mm of rain in the last two weeks. Shallow roots from century-old stone oaks that in all their resilience have survived. One did not survive last night. Part stays on the ground, for shelter and nutrients. Part we cut and cleave for the fire wood. It is sad. But nothing is lost. In other places, Kristin was much, much worse... unfortunately.

Statutory guidance has been issued on the design and provision of floating bus stops in #England under section 31 of the Bus Services Act 2025. Floating bus stops are locations where a #cycle track and bus stop intersect, bringing #cyclists, pedestrians and bus passengers into close interaction. The guidance applies to new schemes and existing installations and replaces earlier advice in LTN 1/20. Local #transport, highway and #traffic authorities, Transport for #London and National Highways must have regard to it when installing or altering stops. It sets out design principles centred on safety, #accessibility and consistency, with particular emphasis on disabled people and bus passengers. The guidance reflects research highlighting safety and accessibility concerns and supports the ongoing pause on new designs that require passengers to board or alight directly into a cycle track. Further updates are planned following research due to conclude in 2027.

It has been quite stormy all day and #cycling into #wind, and #rain proved quite a challenge. Also, my visibility was affected even though I was wearing goggles. It’s sort of persistent rain which, though not heavy, seeps into you if you’re out there for any length of time. The best way to keep warm was to keep moving. Being back in the dry seems like a form of paradise.

The #Government has announced €360 million in capital funding for Active Travel and Greenways in 2026 to expand walking and #cycling #infrastructure across #Ireland. Of the total, €290 million will be provided through the National #Transport Authority to progress almost 1,000 projects in towns, villages and cities, including schemes in #Dublin, #Cork, #Limerick and #Waterford. A further €8 million will support training and behaviour change programmes such as CycleRight in schools and workplace travel initiatives. The remaining €62 million will fund Greenway projects, including routes in Kerry, Monaghan and Mayo, and support delivery of the National #Cycle Network. Around 200km of new infrastructure is expected in 2026, supporting climate action goals, road safety and sustainable transport in both urban and rural areas.

From where I live, it is 200m above the altitude of the lake. Today it got 5 degrees colder the further down I came.

First bike ride of the year!

Boy Oh Boy, does that ever feel great! There's nothing like a bike ride to lift the spirits.

10ºC and lovely and sunny! We did about 10km, including collecting our farmers' market veggie collection, but that was perfect to start for me, as I've been unwell for a couple of months and need to start slowly again. We stuck to the roads, but fortunately only 2 cars passed us the whole way round.

Does anyone know if there is a reliable source to know whether or not the #cycle road alongside the guided busway towards St Ives is flooded or not?

As it's often flooded in winter, I'd be keen to know if we can get a "live" status on this somewhere. I've been searching for this but only found outdated news or reddit threads, etc. Nothing recent, kept up to date.

#Transport for #London (TfL) and Santander #Cycles are inviting the public to nominate inspirational women cyclists to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March. Ten Santander Cycles will be named after a mix of professional riders and local ‘unsung heroes’, with winners chosen by a judging panel. The initiative aims to highlight female role models and encourage more women and girls to cycle, addressing barriers such as safety concerns and cost. Cycling journeys in London have risen by 43 per cent since 2019, with around 1.5 million trips made daily. TfL says continued investment in cycling infrastructure, community projects and discounted #cycle hire is helping to make #cycling more #accessible. The capital’s strategic cycle network has grown to more than 431km, alongside targeted safety improvements at key junctions.
