• it is predicated on the largest theft of private IP in all human history
• it makes up authoritative shit due to its unsolvable prolific hallucinatory nature
• its potentially catastrophic impacts on our already parlous climate & biodiversity crises

i get it that the author wanted to discuss the most legitimate & real hazards of social destruction, but they could at least have mentioned that there are parallel problems with this odious creation.

which? there's a fundamental difference between the two; they are not synonyms

• "disable" is simple to do already, by anyone with a mind to do so (eg, me, in my :firefoxnightly: via my #userJS). this is insufficient justification for jumping ship from :firefox: to LW, in that i intuit the LW Devs would be just doing what any motivated fox user already could do.
• "remove" [presumably meaning actually deleting all such code] is ofc beyond the capability of a generic end-user, & seems to be the demand of some of the more emphatic critics. this would seem to be a compelling justification to jump over, for those inclined.

so, which is it, i wonder? 🤔🤷‍♀️

If most #LLMs were trained on the data obtained by the wholesale theft of personal intellectual property over recent years, & if LLMs directly relate to what the general public [including me, who makes no claims at all to deep subject knowledge here] think of as being "AI", then how do peeps in the general public who choose to use, & express a liking for, "AI", reconcile their behaviour with the enormously immoral act on which it is predicated?

Does it mean therefore that if such peeps happen to have installed, eg, #SolarPanels on their roofs, they were happy to use panels sourced from the enforced slave-labour Xinjiang Uyghur camps created & run by the #CCP, in direct contravention of all human rights considerations?
