Saying what we're all thinking on here at Mastodon.

We can't afford to sit around and watch Labour fail.

Polanski argues the party needs to take advantage of “massive”
disillusionment with the Labour government, something he said was for now
‘mainly helping fuel support for Reform.

“If you were trying to create the circumstances for the far right to rise, you
would be doing exactly what Keir Starmer is doing now, which is protecting
the wealth and power of the super rich,” he said.

Speaking of Boring and Predictable, how the Greens are never in the news as much as Reform are.....we get the bias lads, thanks....but it's your futures too, and you'll never be rich enough to escape the Trumpian nightmare Farage is promising.

I assume Carla Denyer will be Kuessenberg's prime interviewee- given the Green's fantastic -
and most meaningful - success in the local election?

I mean Lets give credit where it's due for once, instead of where its been moneyed up and

And as we can see from Starmer's pledge not to change a single damn thing, just double down and push harder, the end of the Duopoly seems not so remote now.
This stubborn refusal to listen to anyone but the Right Wing Press, a gooey eyed fascination with the Fascist abomination in the White House and complete indifference to human suffering....it's not a vote winner guys!

The significance of these wins, added in with the big gains for the Lib Dems and
Greens, cannot be overstated. It speaks in a serious way to anew era of politics in
the UK, in which the decades-long duopoly of Labour versus Conservative is
crumbling with the rise of the other parties.

@iaruffell I don't see what future left wing MPs have in Labour, it's time for those MPs to consider going somewhere they will be welcome.

I hope the Greens are working on this, I could see Clive Lewis going over for example

And as for the Greens...

Ramsay always stank. He's regurgitating Labour smokescreen language and signalling to transphobes that he's a willing accomplice.

There are no political parties active in England that can be trusted. I'll still vote Green given the chance as they're the most socialist of any with MPs, they're the most environmentally-minded (duh, and having a viable planet is sort of good) and the others are all Tory or worse.

But make no mistake, the Greens won't win their fight to expel their transphobes while one of their co-leaders has their back.

The Greens aren't wrong, are they?

"cruel and short-sighted"

That's this Labour government!

Her criticism was echoed by co-leader Adrian Ramsay, the MP for
Waveney Valley, who said Labour have had "nine months to prove
themselves and yet they have failed at every turn".

"We, like so many others, were hoping that the change in
government would make things better after so many years of the
Conservatives' cruel and short-sighted cuts to our public services,"
he said.

What you want to say, but are too afraid too, is "we need to undo Brexit, as it was a massive fucking mistake"

Starmer there, thinking like a child caught in a divorce and not a National Leader in a time of global crisis "doesn't want to choose between the US and the EU"

Don't you get it you slow mutherfucker, you don't make that choice, it's already been made for you, WAKE UP!

UK and other G7 allies should sideline US by deepening their
own free trade links, says former Treasury minister Jim O'Neill
Jim O’Neill, the former Goldman Sachs chief economist and former Treasury
minister, has said Britain and other non-US G7 nations should respond to the
Trump tariffs by deepening their own free trade links.

In an interview on the Today progamme, he said that it was perfectly feasible
for leading nations still committed to free trade to in effect sideline the US,
and trade more with each other.

O'Neill, who served as a Treasury minister in David Cameron’s government
for a year and who is now a crossbench peer, said that G7 countries could
take the lead in this, but that India and China should be included too.

He said the government was right to carry on talks with the US about a
possible trade deal. But he went on:
44 But I think our approach should be to slightly stand back and think, what
does Britain want, and can it get from the rest of the world, and what can we
contribute?

And in that regard, it’s important to realise that the rest of the G7, except the
US, collectively are the same size as the United States. And I would have
thought a very sensible thing to be doing is having a serious conversation with
the other members about actually lowering trade barriers between ourselves,
especially for cross-border services, which is what the UK has a marginal
advantage in, which would be very healthy for all of those countries because it’s
the one area of global trade where most countries haven’t done enough in.
ONeill said that the US was on a “kamikaze path” and that its tariffs were
“rather insane”. But other countries had the clout to resist, he suggested.
Asked if it was possible to just ignore the US, he replied:

44 The US is the biggest economy in the world still, but it’s not anything like as
important for global trade as it is in global finance and global security.
So if the US wants to do this [impose global tariffs], then it’s perfectly within the
bounds of feasibility for other large economies to structure themselves, stop this
addiction to the US consumer, and start to consume more themselves, as well as
between each other.

O'Neill said, by turning his back on free trade, Trump was turning his back on
“the major thing which has made the United States so prosperous over the
last 40 to 50 or more years”. Other countries “shouldn't get sucked into the
same game”, he said, because overall, “whether it’s life expectancy or
wealth”, the whole world has benefited from this model.

The Liberal Democrats and the Greens have both said Keir Starmer should
respond to the Trump tariffs by strengthening economic links with countries
like Canada and the EU. But Starmer has rejected this idea, saying it would be
wrong to choose between being close to the US and being close to Europe.

Starmer admits UK will face Trump tariffs this week
So all the grovelling to the fascist in the White House was in vain
While UK industry is unprotected by retaliatory tariffs
The government should urgently seek a closer trade relationship with EU

Labour is Tory Party hell bent on selling out the nation to Donald Trump

Green party say it is ‘sickening’ Labour is boasting about
deportation flights on campaign leaflets

Yesterday, in his speech to the Organised Immigration Crime conference,
Keir Starmer announced that 24,000 migrants have been removed from the
UK since Labour took office. This included the four biggest return flights
ever, he said.

If you are a Labour activists, you can now buy leaflets from party HQ making
the same point.

The Green party says it is horrified. Carla Denyer, the Green’s co-leader, said:
44 Labour’s recent leaflet boasting about deporting more people than the Tories
is sickening.

Labour are failing to provide safe and legal routes into the UK while seemingly
revelling in turning people’s lives upside down.

Any claim the Labour party may have once had to be a party of compassion or
principle has well and truly gone.

The controversy is reminiscent of what happened in 2015, when the party
produced official mugs with the slogan “Controls on immigration”. This was
one of the party’s five election pledges, and so it was understandable that the
party wanted to publicise it. But the mugs were very unpopular with some
Labour activists who felt they sounded rightwing.

The Green Party speaking for the Left Wing (as Labour have abandoned it until the next election)

Green party claim Sentencing Council bill based on 'wilful
misunderstanding’ and will lead to more unjust punishments
The Green party has also criticised the governments decision to introduce
the sentencing guidelines (pre-sentence reports) bill. In a statement, the
Green MP Sian Berry said:

44 It has been chilling to witness the government pile pressure on an
independent body which has been nothing but clear about the importance of
these guidelines for passing effective sentences.

The new guidelines, which were publicly consulted on, would have helped create
safer sentencing for many women, parents, pregnant and young people, for
whom extreme custodial sentences can compound the harm that led to their
offending in the first place. This delay will condemn too many people to unjust
punishment while we wait for new plans.

Pre-sentencing reports offer judges information, they do not determine
sentences. Politicians’ wilful misunderstanding of these processes is dangerous
and will cause irrevocable harm for many if this bill is passed.

Green party accuses Starmer of dancing 'to Farage's tune’, as it
renews call for more safe routes for asylum seekers

The Green party has accused Keir Starmer of dancing to Nigel Farage’s tune
on immigration.

In a statement released in response to Starmer’s speech this morning at the
Organised Immigration Crime summit, Carla Denyer, the Green party’s co-
leader, said:

44 The UK’s inhumane and ineffective approach to migration is costing lives,
and yet Keir Starmer is choosing to dance to Nigel Farage’s tune rather than
making the common sense changes needed to make the system safer and fairer.
We urgently need to introduce safe routes for people fleeing war, violence or
persecution to seek safety in the UK so that people aren’t forced into the hands
of people smugglers.

It’s shameful that this Labour government continues to ignore the only solution
that will prevent people from dying during dangerous journeys to the UK, all
because they are running scared of Farage’s Reform party.
