Landed in Katowice for #Wikimania !
After a restful night, i start collaborative work on our Friday 10:00am round table « Minority languages and Wikimedian community ».

No official #Lingualibre presentation this year despite massive news.
Why ? The codebase is being revamped *right this summer* by 2 Google Summer of Code 2024 interns* in addition to an exhaustingly super productive year as a wikiresident !

It's GSoC midterms week for those of you on the default schedule!

If you haven't been keeping up with weekly reports, now is a good time to catch up, as your reports are one of the things we look at if there's a question about whether you should pass or not.

Here's those questions again:
1. What did you do this past week?
2. What is coming up next?
3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

This week, I've recreated the results shown in Baumann, Fabian, et al.'s paper "Modeling echo chambers and polarization dynamics in social networks" (Physical Review Letters 124.4 (2020): 048301), specifically Figure 2. Using Seldon, I generated the dataset with the same parameters as in the paper, achieving good agreement with the results. Numerous minor fixes were made to the code to ensure that (plot size adjustment was not working due to the bug, Interval Clustering was failing with identifying the clusters in borderline cases), and the successful outcome demonstrates that these adjustments were effective. I also added the histogram plot for the clusters, as it was a natural addition to the pool of the existing plots.

Heading to the #WikiCamp2024 . I will report on both recent Wikimedia residences and large efforts on #LinguaLibre. On those later fronts, past two years have seen some solid changes, by chronological order:
- #SignIt's recording studio fix, 0x010C & myself
- LinguaLibre revamp assessment, then core recording @Poslovitch
- Indonesian languages recordings, Ardzun
- SignIt #GSoC24 revamp, Kabiraa and myself
- LinguaLibre GSoC24 coding, Pushkar, @Poslovitch and myself
Hunger to exchange on those.

Saint malo weather.

Kdenlive is participating of Google Summer of Code.

Kdenlive currently saves subtitles in the SRT format, which only allows very basic styling features. That means only one style for the complete subtitle file. A more advanced file format like ASS (SubStation Alpha Subtitles) would allow much more powerful styling.

FFmpeg is participating in Google Summer of Code

VVC is the successor to the well-known codec HEVC and is currently being implemented in FFmpeg. This project will focus on improving the performance aspects of FFmpeg’s current VVC implementation. In particular this project will focus on adding SIMD x86 optimizations for inter-prediction decoding. The expected result is to land 300+ lines of ASM for the VVC decoder.

🎉 We are thrilled to share that we received four slots in the Google Summer of Code program - a 100% increase compared to last year! We received 16 high-quality proposals in and . We are glad that so many contributors found our projects interesting!

Two students will be working on the serverless benchmark suite SeBS, one on data-centric programming in DaCe, and one on FaaSKeeper, the serverless ZooKeeper.

Rocket.chat is participating in Google Summer of Code

The goal of this project is to implement a feature where users can share multiple files in a single message. Current users can share only one file at a time.

VLC is participating of Google Summer of Code

The VLC interface is quite outdated on Linux and Windows. It has a lot of features, but some are not properly exposed. The new interface is available on master branch which is not yet released on Windows and Linux.

I'm really excited to be able to tell you that Corvus.JsonSchema - our low-allocation, high-performance #jsonschema based serialization and validation library for #dotnet - has been selected as a Google Summer of Code project for 2024. #gsoc24

We are looking forward to getting Source Generator support, to make it even easier for people to take advantage of the library!

Two logos side-by-side on a blue background, the left logo for Google Summer of Code resembles blue code brackets with a slash inside surrounded by a circle and on top of an 8 pointed yellow star, and the Mautic logo on the right. A plus sign is between them, suggesting a collaboration.

Two month ago, the @wikimediafoundation got accepted within the Google Summer of Code 2024 ! #gsoc24

The GSoC is a @Google funded summer project were Google pays the internship for junior developers to contribute to open source codebases.

So I took my Grant writter / Mentor hat, and submitted not one, but TWO Lingualibre coding projects.

10. Lingua Libre v3.0 enhancement and migration

In the field of Language diversity, Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia France have supported LinguaLibre.org, a single page VueJS application to rapidly record vocabularies of the world. Over 240 languages and 1.2 millions words have been audio recorded into Wikimedia sites through this open project. Current back end (wikibase, blazegraph) while interesting have shown limitations, mostly limited query speed, no API, and duplication of data. A revamp have been engaged (here) but requires further full stack work to be expanded into a maitainable codebase, pushed into production, upgraded into an elegant service for native speakers.

- Tech stack: VueJS, Django (Python), NodeJS
- Size: 350 hours
- Difficulty: Intermediate
- Mentor(s): Yug, Poslovitch
- Relevant links.9. Lingua Libre Signlt

Lingua Libre's mission has been extended to Sign Languages in 2019. Both a click-and-translate Firefox extension and a video recording studio have been developped. Both system Ul exist in 35+ languages allowing the global documentation and leaming of sign languages. As Screenshot. Manisfest v2.0 extensions are being phased out, the project is under threat. A full revamp into manifest v3.0 and a modern extension structure would allow the project to be compatible with all web navigators.
- Tech stack: JS, NodeJs, potentially modem frameworks (Vue, React, Svelte)
- Size: 90 hours
- Difficulty: Intermediate
- Mentor(s): Yug
- Relevant links.
