The Federation of General Workers Myanmar (FGWM) reports a labour strike currently going on at the factory of Sen Yu Clothings Myanmar Co., Ltd. It is located inside the Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaingtharyar Township, in Yangon, with around 500 workers, who are on strike since January 7th, 2026.

In #Indonesia, 273,000 #garmentworkers make #Nike products, with a typical wage of just $1 per hour. Another 57,000 workers in #Cambodia make Nike products for around $1.18 per hour. Workers are not directly employed by Nike but work for factories that contract with the #sportswear company. Nike reported $51.4 billion in revenue in 2024.

Today in Labor History April 24, 2013: An eight-story garment factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh, collapsed. The disaster killed 1,129 workers and injured 2,515. A day earlier, someone noticed cracks in the structure. However, factory officials, who had contracts with Benneton and other major U.S. labels, insisted the workers return to the job.
