I recently cancelled my Dropbox subscription, and will now be running local backups instead. For that purpose I need an external hard drive.
It seems most companies (Western Digital, Kingston, Seagate) are American, with Japanese Toshiba occasionally showing up in my search results.
Does anyone know of/have any experience with European storage manufacturers? If not I guess Toshiba will have to do. :)

The plan was, Ellie would ask to use the restroom and would then use a USB drive to "download the contents of her hard drive".
1) How would she get access to the computer?
2) Entire hard drive downloaded to a USB drive?
3) Done in the space of a toilet visit, 10 minutes??
There is no reality in these shows.

PSA, wow do I have a testimonial for portable external hard drives! I've been using them since about 2006. The first few years I go the ones that looked like a fat hardcover book, especially those called MyBook. I never used any of the kind you have to use the preloaded software with. I just formated them and manually copied into them the folders from my Mac and PC, even jump drive folders.
Mostly I have WD brand but last seven years I have been using Toshiba portable external hard drives for the convenient size. Those where nice when I traveled. When I traveled out of state and flew, I usually carried a camera and a few lenses. I would shoot maybe 6 G of photos in RAW and use my family's laptop or desktop system as a pass-through to saved from the memory cards into an external hard drive.
Sooooo, the cool part of this story? 3 years ago we moved to this home when it was 112º in June. Wretched and memorable. For whatever reason, the movers didn't get several boxes of these drives INTO THE HOUSE! I found them about 5 months ago. They endured 2 1/2 years in cartons on outdoor storage racks on the patio. 3 SUMMERS of 115º heat and even heat waves up to 3-4 weeks. Guess what, today I sat down with them finally and they all work, work perfectly! OMG, you maybe have an idea how amazing this is. That's the story!

Now that I've gotten all of that off of my chest, I'll get to the point.
I need help on how to RECOVER everything "stored" on #Onedrive, put it all on my #harddrive (where it was SUPPOSED to be since the beginning) and THEN tell onedrive to fuck off a cliff.
Help me do that on my #pc, please, and I should be able to help my mother do it on hers and we can stop getting #extorted by this "Cloud storage" #racket.
