Late bloomers: these hellebores are supposed to bloom in January in our zone. But they didn't flower until mid March this year. They still have blooms right now but most are dried up - it feels like they're frozen in time.

It reminds me of a line from a favorite #Hozier song: "Be like the rose that you hold in your hand/ That grows bold in a barren and uneasy land/ and lover be good to me." For this is indeed an uneasy land.

A many-petaled flower, drooping gracefully but not quite face down. Each petal is patterned and grading from lighter pink to darker pink toward the ends of the petals.The form is very graceful, like an upside-down lotus. Small leaves of burnished green are visible and behind it all, very much out of focus, is a gray car and neighborhood. The flower seems like a great treasure in a barren place.

Auf laubigem Boden an einem grünen kurzen Stiel viele schmale fiederige grüne Blätter. Nach unten hängend eine tellerförmige Blüte. Die großen runden Blütenblätter sind elfenbeinfarben und innen lila gesprenkelt. Die Staubbeutel sind gelb.

Les hellébores, ou rose de Noël, ont la tête en bas. C’est dommage parce qu’elles sont vraiment très belles. Dans le jardin il y en a un bouquet. Chaque année elles reviennent et chaque année, je me dis que c’est dommage qu’elles aient la tête vers le bas et je fais une photo par dessous
