REHex 0.63.0 is finally out!
REHex 0.63.0 is finally out!
Today's energy... There's gold in them, thar hills! Reverse engineering with a hex editor to mine a few more nuggets of content out of the Neuromancer PC game data files. #retrogaming #hexeditor #dos
My wife's word processor crashed during saving, effectively deleting her 8000-word story WIP. But deleting something doesn't manually 0 out all the bytes, it just removes the reference to it and allows other programs to overwrite that memory. I found a #hexeditor that allowed me to browse the contents of her USB, including all this unallocated memory. From there, we were able to search for a character's name and find text chunks of different versions of the file...

@odoben Q: How would you do a blobcat
command then?
Should it be like a #HexEditor or what?
I mean, I know why you want a #cat for #BinaryBlob|s and name it #blobcat...
And I'd certainly add it to @OS1's repo if it's license permits it...
Just let me know of it's #git so I can add it to the wishlist...
An eternity later I finally succeeded in displaying Hex and ASCII/UTF8. Although I do not like the display yet. ;-) #rust #hexeditor #stilllearning
I've been using ImHex for the last few days on the recommendation of a colleague - it's fantastic! it feels like a modernized 010 editor. the pattern language is quite nice and i feel like I've hardly scratched the surface of all the features
https://github.com/WerWolv/ImHex
they have binaries available if you don't want to build it, it built easily if you want to build from scratch, and it's in homebrew repos if you have a Mac.
Making good progress on my #vim as #HexEditor project.
Right now it is slow when handing big files.
How nice to have ImHex in the windows store - give it a go if you need a HexEditor! https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/XP9K3HWHDJXHTT #hexeditor
25% off the 010 #HexEditor until November 28: https://www.sweetscape.com/store/ (just a happy customer). I use the binary templates to make sense of file formats.

#Hexcurse is a #terminal #hexeditor.
#Hexcurse is an ncurses-based hex editor that supports both hex editing as well as ASCII editing. In addition to the multimode editing hexcurse can undo previous edits, and can also search for a given ASCII or hex value in the edited file. Addresses for bytes can also be switched between hexadecimal or regular decimal.

#Tweak is an efficient #hexeditor.
Tweak is a hex editor which uses B-trees to store its information. When Tweak opens a file it chunks it up and loads only the necessary parts, loading more parts only when needed, saving memory and disk access time. Operations performed on this structure are quite efficient, meaning very large copies or modifications can be done nearly instantly.

Just gave a command line workshop in the #opendesigncourse for refugees.
Such fun!
Classics such as figlet, toilet, touch, cowsay, fortune.. using a pipe, man man.. espeak.
Everyone was buzzing on their chair with excitement.. all that after opening and #glitching a jpeg with a #hexeditor
Ahhh, I'm still smiling 😊
(Great cheat sheets from Alex&ludi, FS, Eric..)
