Really good paper on finding photos with duplicate content (https://cecs.uci.edu/~papers/icme06/pdfs/0000353.pdf). I have been working on a utility based on it that scans my photo library (~21,000 photos, some of which are duplicates due to faulty imports), and it has worked well even on my old dual-core laptop.
Apple Photos can also scan for duplicates, but there is no way to manually start the scan (it is supposed to run in the background but rarely does), so I had to find a better solution #imageeditor #imagemanagement
GIMP 3.2 Promises New Paint Mode, Support for Importing Photoshop Patterns
The image editor PyDPainter for Windows and macOS is inspired by DPaint and according to its author Mark Riale an attempt to create a usable pixel art program in Python using PyGame that can handle low resolutions and limited colour palettes and which can be as easy to use as possible. Version 2.2.0 introduces Brush Trails for brush rotation and scaling and offers an improved macOS support, clipboard paste in text tool and and tutorials.
Any recs for a basic #ImageEditor for #Android that will let me do basic crop/adjust edits without messing with the #EXIF? (And without watermarking/tracking/etc)
Fossify Gallery mostly does, but there's a bug where it deletes location data.
Google Photos doesn't mess with the location, but it breaks the timestamp if you're only editing a file locally and don't have it on their cloud.
Image Toolbox seems to leave it intact sometimes and delete it entirely other times. (Update: by trial and error, it seems that using "Single Edit" and then cropping the image preserves the metadata, but using "Crop" removes it????)
This seems like it should be a really low bar.

By any chance, do you know a quick and lightweight image editor for Linux (GNOME). For quickly adding arrows or highlights? GIMP is too heavy for what I need, and Flameshot has been a bit buggy on GNOME lately.

I was wondering if anyone knows an image editor for android phones you can use on the go. I currently use Snapseed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.niksoftware.snapseed but I feel after Google bought them, development stopped.
It's still a great software but I am missing export options for more formats (avif, webp) than only jpeg and it also doesn't strip metadata/exif from them on exporting. Other than that it's pretty perfect. I've installed Krita android version once but while it's kinda cool on my tablet, phone is more :neofoxgoogly:
Sadly everything else I found so far seems to be trash. I will accept one time purchases, I won't accept in-app purchases, ads or even subscriptions. Open source and from F-Droid would be super cool if anyone knows one.
