Impulsive-hyper ADHD overdrive ☢️

A lot has happened in the last 2½ months, give or take a few days. Several surgeries, big painful trauma, a great loss causing huge grief… Dealing with all this, and trying to recover of it all, has been taking a lot of me. When you’re already dealing with a chronic illness, you have less spoons to deal with. And then, at some point, you’ve used all available spoons. You’ve used all the spoons that you tried to borrow from days in your future (if that makes sense). You are sad, close to depression, and tying to find a way to prevent that from happening.

My ADHD knows that there is something that gives me “easy dopamine”, a quick rush, a feeling of accomplishment, a short moment of happiness, of satisfying some long-craving needs… Unfortunately, it usually means that my bank account is suffering, and in the end, I am in trouble. I need to recognize it, to realize it, to acknowledge it and then… Fight it. 💪🏻 And while I know I can do it, as I’ve done it before, I also know that during times like these, I am not always strong enough to overcome it fast enough. ⚡

Last Sunday, while sipping my morning brew, an impulsive light bulb went off in my head. It said, "You will ride a bike in Denmark; you will ride to three nearby cities."

I am not a sporty guy whatsoever, but it sounds fun… on paper.

I am unprepared to ride 150 km in a few days, and I expect to die 500 times an hour.

More fun from tonight: I saw the CEO of the company I work for standing at the elevators. I blurted put his first name, like we are bffs. He looks up so I introduce myself by saying “Hi, I’m Jen S., I work for you!” 🤦🏼‍♀️Big laugh. He says hi, etc, then introduces me to the guys he’s with and says they work for him too. 😂 More laughs and chatting. The friends who were with me didn’t really understand what was happening.

I’ll be getting a lot of mileage out of this at work.

I think the most negative real-world influence a life of videogames has given me isn't "violent tendencies" like popular media thinks...

But is instead a consistent, low grade impulse of wanting to buy the biggest backpack I possibly can. I don't have anything I need to put in it now, but what if I turn over a rock somewhere and $50k worth of items fall out from under it?

I’m the kind of person who will switch lines at store checkouts; change lanes on the highway.
I didn’t know about instances when I signed up. I happened across one and here I am.
Some days I think about changing because I did not thoughtfully choose my instance, but then I think about how changing lines or lanes does not necessarily make things better. Perhaps here is as good as any place.
