The white plastic garden chair is a design icon, found in gardens and patios all over the world. It´s often found with green stains from being outside in all kinds of weather, uncleaned and harshly treated, which the durable plastic it´s made from allows it to be. But the treatment of it may also relate to its cheapness and ubiquity. It´s an object related to the working class, charter holidays, fast-food restaurants, and chess-playing grandpas in Southern Europe. At the same time, it´s a symbol of mass production and consumer culture, and the implications that plastic, a human-made material from oil, non-bio-degradable, has for the environment.

In my artistic practice I work with figurative paintings that explore contemporary popular and internet culture. Among other things, I examine celebrities, memes, reality TV, internet trends and stock images, and I am interested in images and objects that are considered low culture - kitschy, tasteless and gaudy. I am curious about what judgments of taste say about worldviews, cultures, family backgrounds and places in the social hierarchy, and try to investigate other ways of seeing the world. Lifting the low culture objects into the high culture sphere of art, and with that, confronting the viewer’s taste and expectations of what art should thematize, is central to my artistic project.

«The Tea Party» 2020 ☕️

It was painted in 2020, during the last six months of Trumps presidency, and I did not know if he would be re-elected or if it would even be relevant in a year. But 5 years later it’s more relevant then ever.

In the painting, Trump is the mad hatter from Alice and Wonderland who has invited 3 friends from around the world for some tea and cake, discussing what exactly? Various goods and American mail-in-ballots were spotted.

The painting is referencing one of my favourite painters of all time, Manet, and his work “Le dejeuner sur l’herbe” (1863).

It was painted by free hand, without underpainting, sketches, grids or projector, a messy, complicated, uncontrollable yet fun way of painting, that I could never have done today. But I can enjoy looking back at the steps of my painting-journey!

It was exhibited at @hostutstillingen 2022 💖

New website and visual identity for RØST Talerskole

RØST needed a new website and an updated visual identity. The organization works towards helping young people voice their ideas, and needed something that could encompass both classical rhetoric as well as their focus on diversity and youth culture.

The design took as a starting point the three sculptural podiums that RØST brings with them, and extrapolated a bright and colour palette as well as a bunch of shapes and images to use throughout the website, on SoMe, for presentations etc.

The display font is Pangaia by Pangram.

New visual identity for TEMPI

TEMPI is one the four danish genre organisations, with a focus on roots and folk music.

The new identity needed be be both serious and clean, and work equally well for governments, funding applications, conventions and more informal and fun formats, SoMe etc. Business in the front, party in the back, as it was put at one point - in jest, but still fairly accurate.

The identity includes a variety of new logos and logotype, colour scheme, SoMe templates and a variety of patterns derived from the logo work for use in various instances.

Fonts are Area Normal and Joly Display.
