The ghost of Mr Barrett
When we first moved in, we often smelled Woodbine tobacco which moved around the house on different days. We thought of it as the ghost of it Mr Barrett who lived here before us, perhaps because the smoke had leached into the walls and was released with certain atmospheric conditions. Over time it has happened less often but I thought I'd paint a picture of him to remind me.

On my first Vipassana course, after hours of sitting from 4am, we stopped for breakfast and filed out of the meditation hall in silence and down the stairs. At the window on the landing I stopped. The sun was rising and outside everything was sparkling - the rows of cabbages and clumps of flowers, the hedges and trees were all mesmerisingly beautiful. I felt filled with a joy I had never experienced before, that I was a part of everything. I couldn't stop staring and when I looked around other people were also around me gazing out over that shimmering garden as if seeing it for the very first time.
