#JeffGeerling finally unlocks #RaspberryPi external #GPU support, and yes it runs Doom... 3 at 4K!
Raspberry Pi wizard Jeff Geerling has demonstrated 4K60 gaming on his #RPi5 setup. Crucially, the Pi 5 was given a considerable lift in the GPU department via the use of an M.2 to OCuLink adapter and an AMD Radeon RX 460 desktop graphics card
SuperTuxKart and Doom 3 can both run at 4K60 and max settings!

You have to jump through a LOT of hoops to do it, but now you can connect an external graphics card to a Raspberry Pi 5 to enable 4K gaming at decent frame rates. There are still some bugs, and only some older NVIDIA GPUs work. buff.ly/48angDi #RaspberryPi5 #SBCGaming #eGPU #JeffGeerling

#MilkVJupiter is the first #ITX #RISCV board #JeffGeerling tested
It includes niceties like front panel IO, front-panel Audio, USB 3.0, and USB 2.0, 24-pin ATX power input, an M.2 M-key slot for NVMe, and an open ended PCI Express slot!
#Canonical seems to have a good relationship with #MilkV, so #Ubuntu seems to be the base distro off which #Bianbu #Linux is built.
It all worksβ€”a bit better than he expected. But RISC-V isn't ready for prime-time yet

The state of #Docker on popular #RISCV platforms
Docker and #Ansible, two tools for #devops work, both run stablyβ€”though with plenty of caveats since RISC-V is still so new.
A couple years ago, RISC-V was in very rough space, where #JeffGeerling would run into crashes, weird boot issues, etc. Today it feels a lot like #Arm #Linux in 2016 or so... there is some support out there, most things work, but you have to do a lot of manual tweaking to run real-world applications.

Thanks to the Geekworm wiki and @geerlingguy, I now have
MXLinux 23 Raspberry Pi Respin running on my Raspberry Pi 5 with the PineberryPi HatDrive SSD HAT!

Say β€œhello” to Commander Fox, likely destined for Nextcloud duty.

Booting and app launching are FAST. The only thing that holds it back is the lack of a GPU, but it’s perfectly useable for light desktop work.

#RPi Cluster vs #Ampere #AltraMax 128-core ARM #CPU
The @Ampere@twitter.com system blows past the Pi cluster and #AMD desktop, but isn't even half as efficient as the silent little #AppleSilicon M1 Max #MacStudio on which #JeffGeerling wrote the post!

Because of my unquenchable thirst for distro-hopping, I think it is time I learn #Ansible. While it is true it's normally used in #Homelab or work environments, it should be able to work for setting up one's PC locally πŸ€”

#JeffGeerling from YouTube has a video uploaded about that; youtube.com/watch?v=1VhPVu5EK5

@minkiu I suggest you take a look at #JeffGeerling's videos. He has gone through several iterations of #RaspberryPi #NAS and has even used NVMe drives:
