Back to #3dprinting

I converted from a run of the mill #bltouch to a #bdsensor and so far it's awesome, but it's for a few quirks I'm nailing down.

Height is crucial to good operation but it's also low enough that if you get it wrong you're smacking the print with the sensor or it's not working.

Building bed meshes in seconds is amazing, but I also found that moving the price up after meshing can cause a failure.

Marlin works but particularly while tinkering is a lot of back and forth, the big gotcha that #Marlin has against it. Compiling.

Realistically; #Klipper would be my best bet but every time I go down that route I get burned.

@kims @MamaLake I have successfully wrangled the manufacturer-provided firmwares off my #Sovol SV08 (#3DPrinting) and replaced the code on all three of its microcontrollers with mainline #Klipper and the Katapult bootloader.

I verified it’s a proper upgrade to the printer’s stock setup by proceeding to print a picture-perfect, gapless, 350x350mm first layer.

The first critical step in upgrading this bargain basement #Voron to my multi-toolhead #INDX dream machine is well underway! 🀩

Now I can keep up to date with the coolest new 3D printing software developments! Eddy current bed probing! Adaptive bed meshing! Hacks ahoy!

Lol, "calibrate_start_x" can't be zero. 0.1 is okay though.

That's definitely a bug, 0 is a valid X coordinate.

But… it's right there? 🀨

The Klipper interface "Fluidd" complaining "AXIS_TWIST_COMPENSATION for X axis requires calibrate_start_x, calibrate_end_x and calibrate_y to be defined". The config however shows that they indeed are defined.

I updated the rasp to Debian Trixie and #klipper stopped working 😭
Now I have to remember how I set this up, because if memory serves I had to modify it a little bit to make it work with python 3.

I am trying to automate something based on whether #Klipper heating the bed (or not). I could just calculate the difference between the target and actual temps, but I'm trying to see if there's an easier way. Unfortunately #HomeAssistant doesn't appear to have any state history ever.

Has anyone figured out how to play sounds (through a standard audio interface, not a beeper) with #Klipper, for example when a print completed? πŸ€” Given Klipper / Fluidd can't execute shell commands directly my initial thought was to save a few audio clips with TTS and just play those. But I can't find any good resource on anything like that. :|

πŸš€ MainsailOS v2.2.2 is out now!

A small but important maintenance release is here:

πŸ› οΈ Fixed a CANBUS issue introduced by the new Raspberry Pi Kernel v6.12.47

πŸ“¦ Updated base image paths to use oldstable (Bookworm) to keep builds stable and compatible.

πŸ’‘ If you’re wondering what happened to v2.2.1 β€” that one didn’t make it past internal testing due to a base image config issue. Fixed now! βœ…

I took me way longer than I want to admit to process what angle the preview is looking from (because of the text). :thisisfine:
#3DPrinting #Klipper

Interface of a 3D printer called "Plastic Piranha (i3 Mega)", which is a modified Anycubic i3 Mega from 2017. It is currently running as shown by the interface, with high temperatures of 245Β°C and 65Β°C of the print bed. In the middle are two camera previews showing the printer as well as another one called "Derpface", on the right is a "GCode Preview". It shows the current layer the printer is working on, with the individual lines it has printed being brighter and a green dot showing where the print head currently is. The part printed is a case for a small Orange Pi 2 Zero SBC. In the preview there's a text which is mirrored as the preview looks from above, while the text will later be read from what is currently "below" (on the print bed).
