"Thousands of miles of footpaths could be lost due to a massive backlog in local councils dealing with applications, campaigners say.

"The government has set a deadline of 2031 for all rights of way in England to be added to an official map.

"But data gathered by the BBC suggests nearly 8,000 requests to get public paths and bridleways added to the map have not been processed – and some date back to the 1980s.

"The government said processing applications was the responsibility of local authorities."

I would be totally unsurprised by that, if it's indeed the case, having spent my childhood in between land owned by a Baron and land owned by an Earl.

What did surprise me was that #PaulWhitewick 's first example led straight to a Bahamian shell company. I didn't expect this to be such a common practice that it was encountered on the first go.

Both the Baron and the Earl sold off to multinationals, last century. Perhaps I should have.

There's something I'd really like people to understand, and that is the fact that the reason it's so difficult to find undeveloped lands where you can freely go #camping near urban areas is not because of the spread of #urbanism, but the lack of it.

It's #sprawl that is the problem. Sprawl and private #landownership.

All of these problems and many, many more would be solved by #LVT #LandValueTaxation replacing income tax and property tax.
