Some birds spotted this morning on campus. A female Australian Wood Duck, pausing mid-preen for a photo; and two Little Corellas on a rock grabbing a drink from the lake.

The duck is a female and has the lighter brown head characteristic of that sex. She has a pretty mottled brown and white neck, sitting in an S curve. The sub is from the left of frame and slightly behind the bird, highlighting the feather texture.

The further one has its head tilted back swallowing, while the foreground one has its beak in the water.

Male Australian White Ibis in breeding colours (bright red skin patch on the back of the head, and bright red legs). The rest of the head is black with a long downward curving beak, while most of the plumage is white, except for some black tipped feathers on the tail.

A Little Corella (a small cockatoo) takes flight from a branch while another (on the branch) screams at it.

A Little Pied Cormorant (a black and white cormorant - diving bird) on a rock with a spray of green reeds behind it, and water reflecting an overcast sky behind that.

An Australian White Ibis, wandering through some unmowed grass. Its legs and tail are obscured by the grass, but its neck and head stand proud. It looks vaguely menacing.

A damp Little Corella holding some pine needles in order to have a good chew this morning.

One of a flock of about 30 birds, all feasting under this particular pine tree.

A few critters from work, as I sought out a quiet spot on campus at lunchtime today.

A #Turtle swimming past the shore. Probably a Brisbane River Turtle, but I'm not sure.

A stately black Cormorant perched on a float in the lake. It is positioned to the right of frame, facing left, and it's green eye can be easily seen reflecting the sun.

A turtle swims past the grassy shore with only its head out of the water. Its shell can be seen under the surface, and is covered in mossy water weed.
The turtle's shell is approx 30cm in diameter.

Up at silly o’clock this morning, just as the sun was rising and what a sight to behold.

In numbers (4-5 dozen), these are some type of #Corella feeding away in the freshly laid bark, in a nearby park.

I think these little fellas are called #LittleCorella going by a quick google search. They’re a sub-genus of the white cockatoo, I read with interest!

They seemed unfazed by my presence, although I did creep up on them, and they appear to be quite placid and behaving nicely probably because they’re filling their bellies on this fine, but cool Melbourne morning.

7 degrees (14F), but the sun’s out and it is forecast to be a cloudless, sunshiny day 🙌☀️

The Corellas have arrived on their yearly rounds of the street trees. They seem very methodical in the way they move through the trees, one at a time, and on mass. And always keeping an watchful eye on the world below.

Little Corellas on campus this afternoon. They are an absolute hoot to watch if you have the time. They'll roll around on their backs playing with dried leaves, squabble amongst each other, flap or hop around. So much character.
