🌏 Long-billed Corella (Cacatua tenuirostris)

The Long-billed Corella, also known as the Slender-billed Corella, or Long-billed Cockatoo, is a medium-sized white cockatoo with a distinctive long, pale upper bill and splashes of reddish-pink on its face and upper breast. Native to southeastern Australia (Victoria and NSW). It is highly social, often foraging in large, noisy flocks on the ground for roots, bulbs, and seeds, using its specialized bill to dig. No subspecies are recognised. 2.5 Flash (Edited)

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

Fun fact: Long-billed Corellas are often regarded as the best "talkers" among Australian cockatoos, having a remarkable ability to mimic human words with impressive clarity.

A few more shots of these two larrikins. They will try to "dig out" the hole they just found, unaware at first that bricks and mortar are not corella friendly.

Poisoned native birds falling from the sky

"A Melbourne wildlife carer estimates 400 native corellas and pigeons may have died from suspected poisoning in Melbourne's south-east over the weekend. Native bird species killed include the crested pigeons, ravens, sulphur-crested cockatoos and silver gulls ...[The birds] were literally falling from the sky, they were falling down in front of cars and getting hit."

I was doing a bit of a walk today and I could hear the #corellas before I could see them because it was so bright out and a lot of them were hidden. Noisy buggers when there's a big flock. I looked straight up and found this trio just sitting close together. The right one started to groom the middle one after a bit of cuddles. Very cute.

What looks like a couple of old friends sharing a hilarious joke, a pair of little roll around the grass at the wetlands.

While we wait for the Moon to rise and start tracking #Chandrayaan3, we were visited this morning by a small flock of #Corellas. In many cultures, Corellas are believed to be omens of luck and good fortune.

@tecoholic Yes they're wonderful; sorry if you missed out on seeing them.

Depending on season, & rain/drought status extant at the time, i'm fortunate to get them, #corellas, #rosellas, #kookaburras, #magpies, #currawongs around my place / in my area. They're fab, always make me smile, & lift my spirits.

Second coffee, so the world is wonderful... for another few minutes.
