60 year-old pet Corella Australian parrot is perched upon my wife’s shoulder.

Present owner has looked after her for the last 23 years. Prior to that she was part of Greek family and speaks Greek as a first language but has also learned English quite well too.

A much loved pet.

Earlier today we had a show down between Rolfie (one of our regular sulphur crested cockies) and a pair of Long-billed Corellas. But the corellas came back soon after!

Each year they arrive in spring and investigate various parts of the nearby buildings for possible nesting spots. Such is the challenge for city birds. Most will end up tearing into a palm tree or getting booted out by a Rainbow Lorikeet. It's a tough gig for a parrot in Melbourne.

Often one will stand guard and alert to drama, while the other goes in close to inspect.

People have a love-hate with these birds. On the one hand, corellas are cute, pretty, and smart. On the other hand, they’re noisy and fiendishly good at destroying property!

Up at silly o’clock this morning, just as the sun was rising and what a sight to behold.

In numbers (4-5 dozen), these are some type of #Corella feeding away in the freshly laid bark, in a nearby park.

I think these little fellas are called #LittleCorella going by a quick google search. They’re a sub-genus of the white cockatoo, I read with interest!

They seemed unfazed by my presence, although I did creep up on them, and they appear to be quite placid and behaving nicely probably because they’re filling their bellies on this fine, but cool Melbourne morning.

7 degrees (14F), but the sun’s out and it is forecast to be a cloudless, sunshiny day 🙌☀️

A flock of little corellas (Cacatua sanguinea). It's not unusual to see flocks around the city, but this was quite large (this photo shows maybe a third of the flock) and something seemed a little off. Then I noticed the brown falcon (Falco berigora) following them, which sadly I wasn't able to get a decent shot of.
