So I noticed something very nice with #MitID. I've started to use #lockdownmode on my iPhone. Occasionally my Danish apps log me out for whatever reason and I need to log in again with MitID. Well, because of Lockdown Mode, it won't automatically open the app on the iPhone. No problem. That's part of the reason I have it in in the first place.

I switch to app and it opens the QR code camera, essentially defaulting to "Open MitID on another device". Lovely security theater you got there MitID.

It appears a recent issue described by some #iOS users "Lockdown Mode blocked [contact name] from contacting you" can also occur with the #Signal app.

I've seen a contact switch over to Messages after being unable to communicate over Signal when the remote party had Lockdown mode enabled. This apparent bug is not only generally annoying, but might be considered a form of a downgrade attack if it results in people disabling #LockdownMode or using less-secure-than-Signal apps to communicate.

I’ve been using #Apple's #LockdownMode for ~ 6 months now on #macOS Sonoma and #iOS 17-18 and while I'm not convinced that it is doing anything helpful, it is not as bad as I expected. The biggest issue I have is web fonts. I understand that they are a hypothetical risk, but the impact of not having them on some sites is severe. I’m antique enough in my web authoring that this was a bit of a shock. Sites load MBs of G-hosted web fonts just to get a handful of dingbats.

#Lockdownmode (which I assume disables this and mirroring?) is looking more and more interesting for each additional feature Apple bolts on to FaceTime and iMessage.

iOS 17.5 didn’t fix the issue that some websites does not work when in lock down mode (even though lock down mode is disabled for that website).

I wonder if that’s here to stay.
(It worked before iOS 17).

Well, I finally REALLY got the new #Mac to production state. Ended up using "Erase My Mac" to get to a state where I had a fully-migrated system (i.e. all my organically grown case-sensitive data) that fully recognized my authority. The last bit’s a weird problem that blocked adjusting system security in Recovery, even after authing via AppleID. Disappointed that I had to give up on #LockdownMode, but web fonts are sadly an indispensable part of some of my core work tools.
