Сегодня я для себя открыл: Project Loom

"Loom" означает "ткацкий станок" - так назывался проект по добавлению асинхронности в джаву. Тяжёлые системные потоки заменили легковесными виртуальными потоками. Потоки и нити в английском называются одинаково - thread - отсюда название. Проект успешно внедрили пару лет назад, и я, к сожалению, это полностью пропустил. Основная причина, конечно - что я в принципе не ожидал от джавы никаких прорывов (и оказался на 100% неправ!) Ну и, как бэкенд-разработчик на питоне, я не очень-то слежу за развитием JVM-языков. Но исправляюсь: Project Loom - это блестящая идея. Учитывая, что его внедрили совместимым образом, и почти не было ломающих изменений. Я считаю, это оптимальная реализация асинхронности для высокоуровневого серверного языка. Уже почти все использующие JVM языки переехали на новую JVM, и, таким образом, на проект Loom: деваться им некуда. Так что, есть надежда, что это изменение откроет новую главу для некоторых из них. Есть также предположение, как оно может повлиять на скриптовые языки, такие как питон. Гипотеза только. Также, вы узнаете, почему Гвидо ван Россум не ошибся, когда добавлял async/await в питон, а Мацумото - создатель Ruby - тоже угадал, когда, наоборот, отказался от async/await.

Back in the mid #80s, my parents had a #loom in the basement. Really old one made of wood that was probably 1,5m or maybe even 2m on all three sides. It was in fact so big that I could hide out with a pillow and a pile of comic books inside it. Probably Tintin albums. It seemed like it was a hundred years old. Maybe it was.

They split up when I was a teen. My dad died a year ago. My mom turned 75 today. I believe she still has that loom, or at least part of it.

Weird thing, time.

This is metacognition by the way - programmable attention heads.

Some people do it naturally, usually those who really, really, really need to get something off their minds.

You don't need to train a model to find your information. You put it there. Keep it tidy next time.

Programmable text means structured text becomes a programmable data store. Whatever pattern you want becomes programmable attention whenever you need it. Fire it once, pennies per million docs on lambda. Cache the results indefinitely. Fetch what you need when you need it. Store it forever.

Document changes? Query results change. The old ones were still valid for their time, so they remain. The meaning is in the edges.
