Really struggling to find the root-cause of this #OpenGD77 #MMDVM hotspot simulation sound quality problem.
Testing with Parrot - works for approx 2-3 secs, then breaks down completely to an unrecognisable noise. Definitely sounds like an RFI issue, but cannot figure out where and how. Even with the radio set to mW levels it's not working well.
Next, I will move the antenna far away from the radio by some coax.

Saturday projects:
We now have a 2.55 watt output Full Duplex UHF Pi-Star (DMR) Hotspot driven by a "Broadband 1-930 MHz 2w eBay Amp"
Having to run a -10dB attenuator (since the mmdvm outputs 10mw) to not blow up the amp since it only needs 1mw to run it
Hopefully driving the amp with 13.8v won't hurt it too much because it's only meant to be driven with 12v 👀 ...(Just a little spicy given it's output power heh :blobcat_thisisfine: )
Going to have to take a walk later on and see what it's range is like now :blobcatcheer2:
Was stimmt eigentlich mit den OMs nicht, die ihren #mmdvm auf 433,500MHz betreiben? Gestern in #aprsdroid dutzende gefunden auf den Weg nach Bremen. Hier steht der Müll mit S5-S7. Also werde ich den Speicher der Yaesu mal ändern und dort mit 50w statt 5w Antworten bei Anrufen.

Lazywebs: I'm looking for the current #MMDVM interface specification. I found a really old one (https://www.f5uii.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/MMDVM-Specification-20150922.pdf) but there have been a number of additions to the spec such as POCSAG and CW ID commands/modes. I can rummage through the MMDVMHost source to figure it out but I haven't touched C/C++ in a LONG time. I want to communicate directly with an MMDVM board. #hamradio #amateurradio

My favorite kind of #amateurRadio #repair is when I run into another problem, figure out a workaround, then my original fix works.
Today I was replacing the OLED screen on my #MMDVM hotspot when I melted one of the 5x2 headers. I was able to cut two 5x1 headers from a 50x1 I had on hand, file them flat, unsolder the melty header, pop the new ones in... and finally replace the screen. Done and done!
Successfully prevented the yak-shaving spiral!
