#YSF

This darn #EuroNode keeps losing connection to the US-KCWide #YSF server. Following a reboot, it lasted less than 12 hours, losing connection just prior to 0500 UTC.

I thought that given the high duty cycle with US-KCWide, the RF section of the hotspot might be overheating, so I put a fan under it. Didn't help.

I need to try another high-traffic YSF reflector, or test the hotspot on DMR.

Due to I was asked very nicely I have spun up a #DV that bridged to #FreeDMR 530 (ZL Calling) TG

#AllStar (ASL): 572984
#M17 M17-434 Z
#NXDN: 53035
#P25: 53035
#YSF Reflector: AU-ZL-FDMR530 or YSF00530

You'll have to wait for the NXDN, P25, YSF to propagate to be able to connect to them

I have a proposed idea for starting a #VK wide #DV net on the VK Nets Hub (50500) that I run, wondering if anyone be interested in a DV net on Sunday evening around 19:30ACST (10:00UTC), it be a mixed chat & technical net.

International station will also be more than welcome too

Ideas, comments etc welcome

… this is the home, but if you are on D-STAR, you need the "g2_link" package on your gateway to connect ... though there are other ways in (REF038A is how we connect). 103.xlxreflector.org/index.php

The main thing is that conceptually, they are all the same. Well, OK, DMR uses TDMA so a single physical repeater can support two simultaneous channels. Other than that, though ...

Here is the link for links to the dashboards of the multimode hubs that I maintain & operate
dvref.dale.id.au/

I have added more to the page and if your VK club be interested in running your DV net(s) on VK Nets (50500) hub feel to pass on this info to them and let me know.

You can also see list of current nets run on the hub too.

Feel free to boost 😺

@bullfrog

I, too, am old.

I start as an Icom fanboy, so naturally have 3 #DSTAR capable radios and am currently admin of "VE2RM B" (and formerly "W5TC B").

DMR, which unlike D-STAR & #YSF doesn't encode callsigns, has *one* advantage over the others: TDMA.

Otherwise, it shares the same issues w/the others: proprietary codec & over-reliance on commodity internet for linking.

Never copied YSF, but I never really heard a difference between DMR & D-STAR (or even P25).

Hello fellow hams - what are your favourite YSF rooms to stay on, lurk and listen? It could be fun to have a common room for fedi fellows :D :radio_handheld:

lore: i bought Yaesu FT5D for aprs functionality, but recently grown up to not hate on internet-based HAMing on that particular matter and bought a mmdvm hotspot - now i want to get some inspiration :radio_tower:

coming up at 1 PM Eastern, 10 Pacific, 1800Z, it's the Trans-Canada Net, brought to you by North Fraser ARC, the club with no meetings, no dues, and no politics.

Today's question: What part of #AmateurRadio are you curious about exploring? Let's get rid of those nerves and get you started in a different facet of the hobby. (If this question is a dud, we'll talk about the weather :)

I think it's worth me doing a new #Introduction:

Hi! I'm Chris! I write code, I make things, and I parent.

My posts are generally about a few key areas: #Programming, #HamRadio, #TTRPG and #Parenting.

As far as programming, I mostly focus on #DotNet #CSharp professionally, with a smattering of #WebDev using #TypeScript. For my "not professional" development, I do a lot of #GameDev in #Godot (usually using C#, though not always!), and I adore #FunctionalProgramming, particularly in #FSharp, but also in many other languages! I stream software and game development on Twitch at twitch.tv/b4ux1t3. The schedule on there is not currently correct (January 2025), but should be soon.

When it comes to ham radio, I mostly focus on #DigitalModes, though I do a little bit of #POTA and #SOTA (well, I want to, anyway!). I'm a big user of #APRS and #PacketRadio. I try to be active on #YSF via the inimitable KJ7OMO@mastodon.radio's (edit: removed the mention here to prevent accidental mentions!) pride radio network, though mostly I listen. If you'd like my callsign, feel free to DM me. I do not list it publicly, but I'm not shy about handing it out in a more private setting.

Regarding TTRPG, I'm mostly a forever GM who runs #ShadowdarkRPG, #BladesInTheDark, #MorkBorg and #Mausritter, though I love most #OSR games and often mix and match rules and stuff. I don't _hate_ #DnD, #dnd5e or otherwise, it's just not the sort of thing I enjoy running. I also GM professionally on startplaying.games/gm/b4ux1t3!

Outside of that, some of my posts are about #Crochet, #BookBinding, #Woodworking, #Mathematics, #Linguistics, #TokiPona and, well, lots of other things

I have lots of links in my profile if you'd like to know more about me!

It's sad that #YSF worldlink is dead. . .the equivalent on DMR was hopping the last time I did that, but I no longer have a DMR radio.

#Ham update: Learnt more about and experimented with Pi-Star and am now #QRV on #DMR+, #YSF, and #XLX reflectors. I'd say that's good progress after just a couple of weeks.

VK Calling

#FreeDMR: 505

I am rethinking my use of #dmr. If it worked like a trunking system where I can roam, that would be useful. But static talkgroups and limits on what I can dynamically use make it rather clumsy.

I will say, the audio quality on #dstar and #ysf is waaaaay better.
