#M17project

I just went to update my hosts file with this script and that API endpoint is now locked behind required authorization. You can still download host files in the clear by hand, and they now include DNS entries, so maybe that will be good enough for dual-stack? Still not sure why a public view has to be behind auth now.

@m17_project
Greetings! Where is the main forum for those interested an #M17project now? One gets the strange feeling that this is a closed lodge of gloomy silent people. I'm interested in this technology, but I have no one to ask questions to. #m17 #m17_project

Does anyone know if the #M17project weekly nets still taking place on Fridays?

I'm looking for someone who is willing to do the hardware M17 mod to a Retevis RT3S radio (same as the Tytera MD-UV380). If you are willing to help out please get back to me.

I'm putting this out into the fediverse and curious to see what comes back to me. Thanks!

@rhett #aprs for short messages and information retrieval (not so much into positioning). #packetradio or #ARDOP for #winlink emails (no windows, no #vara). #js8call for some asynchronous message and data exchange (not much experience yet). #M17project looks interesting. It is #foss enabling us to execute our #hamradio right to experiment (not like all that closed proprietary stuff: #DMRradio, #c4fm / #ysf and #dstar).

Is there a way to translate arbitrary network traffic to AX.25 #packetradio?

For conceptual reference, imagine something like `stunnel` but for AX.25. Eventually I want to experiment with network services over AX.25. That said, it looks like the #M17project has its own protocol that might allow for arbitrary network services over #hamradio. Maybe they are the future and AX25 is the past? #digitalmodes

Two releases for #pistar in the span of a month! The latest adds early signs of #M17project support, but the release notes say not really ready yet.

Happy to see pi-star still alive, as the forked alternative is a non-starter for me.

(hey, I am happy to see software forked, just not going to hitch my wagon to that particular forker for reasons.)

I was able to fix the stuck tx issue by setting the MMDVM to simplex. Next, I found my old settings from pi-Star and used that to set the Rx/txdcoffset.

Finally, stuff started to work. I set up #YSF and #ysf2dmr, and both the #wiresx control and ysf2dmr bridging seem to work correctly, right from my HT.

The #wpsd interface seems like a nice upgrade from the old pi-Star dash, and I like having more up-to-date components (and #M17project )

If you're looking for a nice refresh, give it a try!

@Ea5iyl @oh8hub Agreed, quite a some ham radio software is built and shared by individuals. And many of them are shared in a way that are not inviting to build a community. At least not a community of contributors.

But there are also projects out there ticking all the boxes: version control, contribution guide, project documentation, and just general open source best practises. Projects like #M17project , #OpenRTX, #GNURadio, #FutureSDR to just name a few.

@tsiolkovsky @N0ZB For me, #HamRadio is about being able to experiment. Neither #dmr, #DStar nor #YSF is a good foundation because they are proprietary. So while I am interested in #DigitalModes, I am not interested in using them. But #FreeDV and #M17Project.

Especially #M17 I have high hopes in. They do try to convince hardware vendors to build HTs they can run M17 on. And as this is not likely to happen, they started #OpenHardware projects to build their own.

Off to Rosebud Radiofest today to give a presentation on #M17, and to get people involved in the #M17project, which is a collaborative effort to develop a VHF/UHF digital voice and data mode.
