Yesterday I found an old #iMac (circa 2008) on the side of the road! Pretty sure it was the same model I used to have back in the day. This thing is big, heavy, and unfortunately punching way below its weight with only an Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, and a 320GB HDD.
But because it looked like it was in good condition I figured Iโd grab it and see if it boots. Lo and behold it booted up and I was prompted to install #Mac #OSX. The installation basically failed instantly but the fact it even booted was good news. I did have an old OSX installer CD so thought Iโd try that, which also failed maybe the CD was too scratched? But anyway, who wants to run an outdated version of #MacOS when you can run shiny new #Linux :blobcatcool:
So I decided to not hold back and went all the way with trying to install #Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. I was expecting issues and probably to go for an older release but it literally installed without a hitch. The hardest part was figuring out which key to press to choose the boot order.
Itโs a bit slow, but can be upgraded a little with a max of 6GB of RAM and an SSD. Ideally I could #upgrade the screen and CPU that would be great! Does anyone on here have experience in doing something like that?
