@openculture this is awesome :D and so are the #MapMen :drake_like:
I don't find Mark on Mastodon and I'm a few days late, but anyway posting this, hoping the message finds its way:
Happy belated birthday Mark
Well, this was an extremely fun unscripted #MapMen video where Jay and Mark play two games of #GeoGuessr with five rounds each. Iβm also chuffed that I correctly guessed some of the countries/cities that they both missed. π«π·πΊπΈπ±π¦π¨ππ§π²π³π΄πΉπ·π§π·πΈπ³π¬π§

[an excellent description of gerrymandering of political districts in the USA]
βWhy does the USA draw district maps with absolutely bonkers shapes? And how do squiggly districts help the wrong politicians win elections? And have we been pronouncing "Gerrymandering" wrong for 200 years?...β

Excellent comme d'habitude !
Glorious new Map Men episode on Gherrymandering (you'll see) in the USA: https://youtu.be/cwBslntC3xg
Gerrymandering (originally meant to be pronounced like Gary, not Jerry) explained as only the ever-hillarious Map Men could.
#Gerrymandering, especially in the U.S., has been covered by numerous videos already. (The 2011 video by CGP Grey is a classic.) But because Iβm a fan of the #MapMen, their hilarious take on the subject is very much appreciated. π
A new Map Men episode? Yes please!
Here's how #gerrymandering works, and why it's surprisingly hard to fix.

One solution the #MapMen don't mention (presumably for the sake of humour) is to merge constituencies together, and have multiple representatives for each constituency instead of just one. That's what we do in Ireland and it works acceptably well. (Doesn't stop politicians from being shite, but they're less bad than in Britain).
Let's get the count straight. How many #countries are there actually? π

Conclusion: It's complicated. Although every nation state should be abolished, I still have to create my own micro-nation. π
Map Men: *There are NOT 195 countries*
"How many countries are there? Does the UN's official list of 195 include them all? Which ones are missing? Does Sealand count? Does England count for that matter? And why are Mark and Jay up a tree?"
