I've used GoPro Max 360 for some time now to collect open imagery, mostly uploading to Mapillary.
I've tried to keep all the collected imagery locally, in case a more open service appears. While there are various Panoramax instances, there are no global ones or any stable ones for this region (although @one did a great job setting up a test instance).

But I ran out of means to store all those images locally, have to delete them now.

Ich habe bei mir nun eine #Dashcam im Auto eingebaut, für vorne und hinten. Ich hätte noch eine dritte Kamera, die normal den Innenraum filmt. Nun bin ich am überlegen, ob ich diese einfach auch nach vorne links oder komplett nach links ausrichte und so montiere.
So hätte ich mehr Bilder, mit denen ich dann zu #OpenStreetMap beitragen könnte.

I always wanted street-level imagery to be a bigger thing in #OpenStreetMap data. Not 360-degree road images like Street View, but photos of points of interest.

I always felt queasy about #Mapillary because of its proprietary nonsense and that feeling was confirmed when it was sold to Facebook/Meta.

Now the next big thing is #Panoramax and apparently it's FOSS and federated and all.

I'm just wondering how it works. It still relies on a single centralised "meta" instance apparently. That's also the link that we'd add to #OSM data.
If that goes down, is sold, or gets compromised, isn't the whole thing for nothing? If an instance shuts down, does it just take down all data ever contributed? Are photos backed up across all instances?

A new bike path was completed in #MadisonWI in December. https://www.cityofmadison.com/engineering/projects/badger-rusk-shared-use-path A good excuse to go on a street-level imagery collection bike ride and survey it for #OpenStreetMap

Ooh. There’s an interesting pull request for the #OpenStreetMap iD editor to allow viewing some #WikimediaCommons photos within the editor in a similar manner to street-level photos from #Mapillary, #KartaView, and @panoramax.

Yesterday, during the JICA training, I tried out vibe coding to implement a method for downloading Mapillary data requested by the participants and importing it as point data. By using a Mapillary access token, the data can be downloaded as a GeoJSON file. There is still room for improvement, such as downloading image data, so I plan to gradually extend the functionality.

There are different options how you can add images to a location. Some are integrated in OSM-based apps like Osmand while others are not.

Generally you can just upload the image to any image hoster of your choice add it via the image= tag. If your photo might be useful outside of #OSM, you could add it to #WikimediaCommons instead and use the wikimedia_commons= tag. For street level images similar to StreetView, there are services like #Mapillary or #Panoramax etc

When I started mapping ten years ago, I couldn't have imagined that I would still be doing it today and have made over a million changes.

Nowadays, I take the app with me everywhere I go, and there's always something to map. It's also surprising how many edits you can make on a kilometre of Panoramax or Mapillary. And Wikimedia also offers plenty of images that you can link.

Oddly, but not surprisingly, uploads from the same phone with #Mapillary are accepted to that site.

Verified GoPro hero7 in timelapse photo mode is writing a sequence of jpeg images to sd card with gps coordinates embedded in the exif data.

How do people record images for Mapillary while on a bicycle? GoPro stuck to a helmet? Is that stable enough? Does something in the pipeline do post-processing to correct for camera tilt?
