Hey #Emacs folks of the Fediverse,

The “Accept” and “Decline” buttons in article mode for ‘text/calendar’ MIME parts are great but #Gnus-specific and do no work with #mu4e: ‘gnus-icalendar-send-buffer-by-mail’ assumes the existence of a ‘*Summary*’ buffer.

Any known solution to this?

I’ve been a happy #mu4e user for several months and even happier now: I had to do some batch processing over emails I got and doing that with the #Guile interface was a breeze.

I've been installing on a fresh computer this week.
For some reason I decided to install #mu4e on #emacs last night. I don't know what I was thinking.
Mu4e is famous for its horrible install experience.

I finally hit a last straw. I had two choices, find a better way or switch to #notmuch. I found a better way, but I might still switch just on principle. Mu4e has been a pain for almost 10 years. Seems like decades.

I wrote a makefile and a bit of elisp. I called it mu4e.
I hope it relieves some pain for all mu4e users everywhere.

With this package, you can move email addresses in a #mu4e compose buffer with just one keystroke.

Seems like a small thing (which it is), but I really needed it for my mental well-being. Plus, programming with #Elisp and extending Emacs is just so much fun!

Another snag I’ve run into while using Mu4e was that sometimes I also use Apple’s Mail on macOS and iOS and any messages I delete there would only be flagged as “trashed” in Mu4e, so they would show up in the inbox, cluttering things considerably. The fix for this was to set Expunge Both in my .mbsyncrc file. Also much better! That one has been bugging me for a long time.

One of my favorite things about using email inside of Emacs is that I can create a link to a specific email and paste it into any org-mode note. Helps me recover the context of my TODO items that come from emails.

Oh boy I've just discovered #mu4e's mu4e-search-prev and mu4e-search-next and I have no idea how I managed to live without these for so long.

I'm about to map them to ⌘-[ and ⌘-] (I have ⌘ as Meta) cause they just feel right at home on #macOS.

I haven't been able to reply to messages in Mu4e using mu4e-compose-reply. I always get a message reading "[mu4e] No message at point". So, I decided to explore some email apps. After a few hours, I just gave up. Reading, archiving, and deleting email with Mu4e is so efficient that it's worth using something else on the fairly rare occasion that I have to reply.

After 20 years as a happy yet increasingly grumpy #Gnus user, it looks like I’m finally making the big jump to #mu4e!

I can still switch back, but so far the experience has been very good: everything is snappy, the UI is clear and simple yet has all the important things in place—contexts are a clean replacement for ‘gnus-posting-styles’, bookmarks are awesome, and search is such an incredible feature. :-)
