By including and centering trans and non-binary individuals in our efforts towards gender equity, we can work towards creating a world where all individuals, regardless of their gender identity, have access to the same opportunities and resources.
This includes fighting for policies that protect the rights of trans and non-binary individuals, such as access to healthcare, legal recognition, and anti-discrimination laws.
Trans and non-binary individuals may face challenges accessing healthcare that is affirming and supportive of their gender identity. This can include a lack of access to gender-affirming medical treatments, such as hormone therapy or surgery or encountering healthcare providers who are not knowledgeable about trans health issues. Failing to address these issues perpetuates systems of oppression that harm trans and non-binary individuals, and ultimately, harm everyone.
We need to be working to uplift the voices and experiences of marginalised individuals while creating policies and systems that benefit everyone, not just those who are already privileged.
Every one of us has a responsibility to help create a more equitable and just society, where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their gender identity. We are all unique and we all deserve to live authentically.
