Including, but not not limited to:

• Developer mode
• Support of various different controllers
• Bluetooth Audio
• Rectangular / Cube shape
• Optional Multimedia support

Others have only been partially done by the big players.

• #XboxOne does HDMI-Passthrough and can do overlays.
• Microsoft's #AdaptiveController is "Peak #Gaming #Accessibility" (aside from it's $150 price tag for the base unit, but compared to so many things in that space, it's still cheap af.
• #Xbox360 and #PS3 and #WiiU had #browsers.

So far, I'm covinced the new #SteamMachine can offer these features except HDMI-In (tho one could just get a USB-HDMI Capture Card and mod that feature in)…

Tho granted it's openness is not because '#GabeN is a good person' or something, but because #Steam needs to be #attractive to #consumers and #developers if they don't want to give #EpicGames and #GOG any breathing room...

• And also the #SteamMachine needs to have #OUYA-esque openness for #developers if it wants to see #success like the #SteamDeck.

Did anyone reading this ever have an #Ouya console? I remember that they looked interesting -- Towerfall (https://www.towerfall-game.com/) was originally an exclusive -- but then dropped off the radar. Well, if you want one, it may be at the Flea again later.

@jdarnold @daemon_nova It'll download the latest firmware when you connect it to the #ouya community server. Early firmwares had their share of problems, but the latest is very usable.

@daemon_nova oh man - the #Ouya! I pledged early and even had a monogrammed controller. What a piece of junk. Not sure I ever got it running well enough to actually play a game

@wesmason we have an #ouya community server at http://ouya.cweiske.de/ that lets you resurrect the ouyas and download + play all the games again.

Sometimes I dig at home and find stuff I have. Sometimes I just need to move something.

I still have the console. I may have a second one in storage. Both I believe are bricks now that the cloud services are dead. Maybe android 4 bricks if I wanted to really get creative. The path to custom ROM'ing these beasties was shaky at best, but I did have one done in a dual boot IIRC.

I have 4 controllers and always keep an eye out for possible uses even today.

@steamdeckhq OFC #GameDevs love the #SteamDeck because it's an #affordable, #powerful and easy to develop for #handheld that is using #amd64 architecture, so it's easy to "port" to it.

• Add to the fact that it's basically the "low end bar" for #LinuxGaming for 5-10+ years and we can all agree that #IndieDevs get the best of both worlds (#Consoles & #PC) in an affordable package and without the need to sigh a gazillion NDAs and pay huge deposits just to get a single #TestKit-Style #DevKit.

The SteamDeck took the right lessions from #XNA & #OUYA and positively disrupts #Gaming on #Linux and #MobileGaming too...
