I've noticed #Observer articles appearing in people's posts now that the Observer has been bought by Tortoise Media.

Tortoise Media's "biggest single shareholder is Tortoise’s editor himself, James Harding. A former editor of The Times newspaper and director of BBC News, Harding holds 32.5% of shares ...

The second largest Tortoise shareholder after Harding is Woodbridge Investments Corporation which holds 16.1% of shares. It is the investment vehicle for the Thomson family, who are majority owners of Thomson Reuters and are led by Thomson Reuters chairman David. Forbes puts the wealth of the family at $71.4bn."

I'm not expecting dynamic #journalism that holds power to account.

The new incarnation reminds me of what I call "Candy store" web design from the 2000's. Large images and text to make up for the lack of content. CNN went through a similar phase.

On Radio 4's PM show on Friday, Lord Sumption said many people were misinterpreting the UK Supreme Court's judgement around The Equality Act. He said the judgement means organisations *can* exclude trans women from women's spaces/competitions, but that they are not *obliged* to do so. Yet today's #Observer editorial repeats the compulsory exclusion line.
Personally, I'm gonna try and find time to read the full 87 page judgment.

It would be my last article for the paper, it transfers to #Tortoise next week who have declined to renew my contract; an epitaph to my 20-year career there and an an end point to an investigation that brought the Guardian and Observer extraordinary kudos and the most money it has ever raised from any story.’

This commentary takes a somewhat contrary view from many, but it is a useful reminder that while the US has been great (honestly) in many ways, the darker side has resulted in crap and chaos.
