I worked with my bf (who's a builder) to draw up a tentative design for the cabin i'd like to get built this year.
since i have access to AutoCAD as part of my schoolwork this semester, i took the opportunity to draw the plan in AutoCAD. i've attached a screenshot of it here.
a few notes:
* there's no bathroom included because the composting toilet and shower will be in a separate structure directly to the south of the house (south = bottom of the drawing).
* lanai = covered porch. if possible, it would be lovely to get it screened in.
* apologies for tiny text. the tiny text on the left says "ladder to loft." the loft isn't included, but it will be the same size as the bedroom and will be an additional sleeping area. the tiny text on the right says "sliding patio doors"
* catchment and solar panels aren't included in the drawing
* the goal is to build this so that the roof can be extended toward the south (the bottom of the drawing). the bathroom structure will be located in that direction and there can be covered storage and potentially a washer/dryer there. the idea is that you would go out the back door (the door near the fridge), there's a covered area there, you can walk to the bathroom, and access laundry there as well.
it's going to be a very simple construction out of plywood and metal roof, on a pier and post base (very common around here). we tried to make the dimensions so that they match typical material sizes to maximize use of materials and minimize cuts.
again, this is just a preliminary design and is very much subject to change, but i wanted to share it.
it's still rainy here, so i haven't made any progress on clearing out the area that will extend the driveway and go to the housepad area, but at least i did something useful and created this plan.
